This was our second stay at the Samuel Durfee House. On both occasions Heather and Michael were very welcoming and accommodating; don't hesitate to ask them for any recommendations for activities or dining during your stay. The rooms are nice, clean and spacious... we stayed in the Durfee room this time and the Perry room last time and we loved the balcony in the Perry room. We had read that they are known for their breakfast and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and they have different options for each day of your stay. I have already recommended this B&B to my friends and will definitely stay here again in the future.
This B&B is in a fantastic location. Easy walking district to fun shopping, restaurants, bars, and the mansions. Yet it’s still nestled in a quiet spot. It has great accessible parking. The breakfast each morning was my favorite meal of all that we had in Newport. Delicious! We stayed in the Ida Lewis Room. We never heard other guests or hallway traffic. The room was comfortable and the bathroom is newly remodeled. Nice hot shower. Comfortable bed. And last but not least, the hosts are warm and friendly with extensive knowledge of the area and tourist attractions but yet still give you your space. All in all, I can’t say enough about the great experience we had at Samuel Durfee.
Our room was immaculate, cozy, and spacious. Heather and Michael, the owners, were SO lovely and helpful. The food for the included breakfast was amazing. The location of the B&B was within walking distance from the heart of everything. The convenience of parking was fantastic. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the Samuel Durfee Inn, and our experience. We will definitely be coming back!!
This was the perfect getaway for our babymoon. The inn was cozy and is in a great location. Being 7 months pregnant it was an easy walk to all the shops and restaurants. Every morning we had a delicious breakfast outside on the patio. Heather and Michael were great hosts and had great recommendations. Newport is a hidden gem and we hope to be back
Michael and Heather are the most delightful hosts in Newport! We just completed our 10th year staying at Samuel Durfee House for the annual Newport Jazz Fest. We wouldn't stay anywhere else! If you value a yummy homemade breakfast, comfortable accommodations, and incredible hospitality then stay at Samuel Durfee House!
This was a wonderful experience. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was delicious. Heather and Michael were so friendly and helpful with suggestions. Location was an easy walk to the harbor and other locations.Rooms: 5/5
My wife Lea and I had an amazing stay in Newport for four nights, and the quality of our experience was due in no small part to our stay at the Samuel Durfee House. We stayed in the Doris Duke suite on the second floor in a very comfortable bedroom with attached living room and two bathrooms, more than enough space for us. Our only regret was that we had been able to spend more time chatting with the innkeepers in their handsomely furnished, federalist style living room downstairs before heading off to enjoy our dinners by the water. For those who enjoy being within walking distance of the waterfront or the ostentatious Gilded Age cottages on Bellevue Avenue, this is inn has the best location. It’s quite the boon to have a parking spot that isn’t along the narrow streets. It’s at most a ten minute walk maybe faster if you don’t stop to window shop from the wharves, so you won’t have any problem making that dinner reservation at the Moorings or 22 Bowen. Lea and I are both history buffs, so having the chance to stay in this historic home was a unique treat for us, but I know anyone would love to stay here in this cozy inn. The inn itself has a special charm. Built originally in 1803, Mike and Heather rescued this historic home and made it into the beautiful inn it is today. If you are like me and have a fascination with New England’s maritime history and present, you will want to talk with Mike about his family’s history living and working as fishermen along the New England coast. Mike and Heather have a deep appreciation for the unique and vibrant culture of Newport and the surrounding coastal communities, which they bring to their work. Even if this is your first time to Newport or to Rhode Island for that matter, after one morning talking to both of them over breakfast, you’ll feel very much at home. I personally recommend the sweet options such as the French toast made with Portuguese bread brought in from Fall River, but Lea will probably say she still craves the savory artichoke and cheese quiche. I cannot recommend the Inn enough. Our experience returning there after our many honeymoon excursions to Castle Hill for cocktails, Gurney’s for massages, Bellevue Avenue for Mansion tours, or to a cruise at sunset in a sloop, made the trip one to remember. If you’re heading to Newport, you couldn’t stay in a better place. As we head back home to Georgia where we live now, we have nothing but great memories to bring with us, and can’t wait to come back to the Inn for our anniversary circumstances permitting. After staying at the Samuel Durfee House, I honestly can’t see myself staying anywhere else in Newport for my next visits. It is so charming, beautiful, perfectly located, and a true pleasure to stay in. Heather and Michael were such lovely hosts. Breakfast in the morning was perfection. I requested robes and they were delivered to the room within ten minutes. I can’t speak more highly of this B&B!
Hosts were so accommodating and lovely. Room was comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. Also the location was so fantastic. The allotted parking space was another bonus!
My husband and I really enjoyed our recent stay at the Samuel Durfee House. Michael and Heather were gracious hosts. They were warm and welcoming. They were very helpful with suggestions of restaurants for dinner, and informative on points of interest we might like to consider visiting. Michael's breakfasts were delicious, and I really appreciated his attention to detail in their presentation. Our room was comfortable with a king size bed that was warm and comfy. It was nice to have the mini fridge with a pitcher of filtered water every day too. The room was kept clean and neat too. Also,in corresponding back and forth through emails with Heather, I mentioned that we were coming to celebrate our Anniversary. When we arrived in our room we found a little note and a tin of chocolates...a very thoughtful gesture. I look forward to a future stay with them again!
