Short's Burger & Shine

I miss Short's so much since moving away from Iowa. I had a chance to stop by this last trip and had my favorite burger in the world: the Dundee. Short's now gives you the choice of the number of burger patties you want. I got a double and also splurge on that extra running egg. Sourced from a nearby farm in Amana, the freshness of the meat used for the patties is what makes Short's burger so good. I guess there has been a recent expansion out onto the actual street (N Clinton St.) for an addition of 4 tables. Since I was driving, I didn't order the Millstream beer on tap. This place can get quite busy, but the wait is well worth it.

Tried to sit on the patio with my service dog and was told “it is not allowed.” I kindly explained the laws regarding service dogs being allowed in all public areas and that federal law covering service animals overrules any health code violation and the waitress told me I was wrong. She was extremely rude during the conversation so I decided to just leave, that it wasn’t worth an argument. Unfortunately this could be a great place if the waiting staff were educated and more kind.

Decent happy hour deal on very basic burgers. From 2-5 pm except Saturday. Just FYI major menu change. Not the same burgers that you may have been use to in the past. They've made two versions. Single patty burgers and double-patty burgers. Different prices. The buns are a lot smaller than you may be used to. Good service and nice beer selection.

The burger I got was very tasty. One of the best I have had in a bit. It was a little cramped inside. The food makes up for all of the downs.

Food was delicious. Best bloody mary in Iowa city . My only "complaint" .. it was a little hot in there, but being 95% outside might have played into it. Overall a great place to stop for lunch and a good old Cubs game.
