To strengthen the library in service to our community.
Some of the current programs include Youth Wired, a bilingual youth leadership program; Born to Read, an early literacy program awarded national recognition by the Institute for Museum and Library Services that provides babies born in Bexar County with a literacy bag containing two books, one of which is bilingual, a library card application and map of library locations and an easy-to-read pamphlet with reading strategies for different stages of growth; Little Read Wagon, an emergent literacy outreach effort for childcare organizations, community centers, public hospitals and homeless shelters to teach parents and day care workers skills to encourage the love of reading and learning; Literacy Caravan, a mobile "classroom" that visits special events and places where families go on a regular basis, and the staff engages parents and children in literacy and art activities; Summer Reading Club, an annual program providing reading and other educational activities for children and teens up to age 18 during the summer months; and Better Future/Mejor Futuro, a leadership and scholarship program for applicants interested in receiving a Master's in Library and Information Sciences.
