Loved it here. Spicy ‘KFC’ Chicken Burger in a kimchi battered sauce was incredible. Highly recommend. Staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Will come again!
Phenomenal food and service and a really cool, vibey, little spot. I highly recommend the pizzas or the smash burger with fry’s. One of the best places we’ve eaten in South Africa so far.
I have been frequenting the Aegir Project since they were just a small micro brewery taproom at Constantia Uitsig, to now a hidden gem in Noordhoek, styled more of a family-friendly restaurant with kiddies play area and sea views than their former days. I do highly approve of their passion for brewing with a very creative selection of beers. They offer a small but awesome food selection, while the service is a bit of a ‘hit and miss’, depending on what day you visit, i.e. weekend lunches are usually frantic. As such an example, our table of 8 or so, on two different occasions, allowed for food to arrive at varied times, with some items being left off or sold out, and therefore regular reminders for such were in order. Fortunately being a weekend with friends and family, we were quite chilled about the affair. Worthy menu items include the Beer Battered Fish & Chips, this has been a staple since the early days at Uitsig, and continue to impress, even if the price has hiked like everything else, but get there early on weekends, it sells out! The kids opted for Smash Burgers & New Yorker Hotdog with fries, leaving them thrilled with an excellent choice. Additionally there are some great hand stretched pizza on offer made with a sourdough base, think there was one taker in our crowd, who loved it, but said it could have been bigger. Worth noting there is a kiddies menu that didn’t disappoint the ‘smallies’ either. Not much on offer on the dessert side though, one of two were sold out. On the drinks side, a some great beers, but make no mistake, do NOT ask for a beer not made by them, this is not an option. SO for me the IPA is grand, as is their Larger’s, but I would opt for a flight of their beers, where 5 can be selected, then select what you like as a 500ml. Growlers 2L and cans are avail for take home too. The wine list is well-curated with some great nuances, but perhaps bordering on over-the-top for a tap room with prices to match. Again, I preferred the limited options from yesteryear. Side note, there are ciders, but not your average Joe’s, we ordered a Barrel Fermented cider that arrived in a 750ml, visually great, and received well in anticipation, but tasted more like a hard Kombucha, albeit it was different and delivered an interesting experience. I have been delaying this review I guess for a number of reasons, mostly because I favour 5 star reviews for eateries and if it cant be met, then leave it out. But, this place is truly a hidden gem, with many special memories for me and the guests I have introduced, so I felt I obligated to leave a review based on 4 years of visits. Personally, the nonchalant attitude in service and the value versus experience has been lost. Considering when its busy, you are ushered to the over-flow area I imagine, to sit under trees on hard steel benches and trestle tables using canteen styled cutlery in boxes at a premium, the taste of the zesty beer and delicious fish is quickly evaporated on departure. I suppose if you stay in Noordhoek or surrounds, and pop in for a quick bite and a beer as I did in Constantia, then its a very different affair indeed. I rave and will continue to rave about the food and beer all the time, but for me the soul is lost, kiddies play area and a brewery are polar opposites in my humble opinion. So for adventurous beer drinkers with young families, it’s highly recommended. Book in advance to try get the deck or the patio outside, even the downstairs area for sea views. Ciao ~SB
This is an excellent tap room on a very picturesque site nestled in the lush vegetation of Noordhoek. I had a very nice selection of beers on a taster plate and an equally delicious hot dog and fries. I would recommend seeking out this hidden gem of an eatery and associated brewery if you are in the area.
The location. The view. The food and the beer! It's not my first time here and for good reason, the food and secondly the beer. The fries and homemade aioli is to die for. This time round I dived deep into the KFC burger, Korean Fried Chicken with homemade sesame bun, kimchi sauce is just enough spicy to waken the taste buds up but not overpowering. Followed swiftly by their own craft beers make for an enjoyable meal and restspot before heading out to explore the wild southern coast of Africa!
This place pumps! However the service is excellent and the staff very helpful and friendly. We received our order very quickly which amazed us considering how busy it was. We shared a beer tasting tray- five different beers that are brewed on the premises - very nice! I had a Korean Fried Chicken burger - delicious and watch out for the kick in the sauce! My husband had a smash burger with bacon and cheese which he enjoyed immensely. The fries come with a wonderful garlic aioli. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
Just wow! The place doesn’t look spectacular from the outside but the experience is spectacular for sure. The different beers are all very delicious, try the tasting set if your interested. Pizza Napoletana that tastes better than some in Italy. Also try to sit upstairs on the deck for ocean views!
Definitely a good place to pick up a burger- super tasty. To my disappointment there was no fish and chips option available due to inconsistency from suppliers, but I hope they have it back on the menu soon. You may get a visitor to your table while you dine- such a gentle and friendly doggy.
5 stars for the food served during the day lunch. 2 stars for the food at night. Been here a few times now. The food is really good during the day. Later in the evening - not nice at all. Pizzas are always burned, which is not the case during the day lunch. Service is also a bit better during the day.
Delicious breakfast and burgers. Superb coffee! The Hangover roll is worth a munch any day of the week Wide variety of craft beers to choose from - the McLoud lager being my recommendation
