Had an enjoyable two-night stay at Kwafubesi and honestly didn’t want to leave. The team go out of their way to accommodate the guests and KG our safari guide always had a story to tell and had a sense of humor to go with it. The rooms look even better in person and include a private outdoor shower which enhances the entire bush experience. This is definitely one of the hidden gems which is located within 2.5 hours from Johannesburg. Would highly recommend.
Wonderful experience at this comfortable and intimate bush retreat! We have been visiting Mabula Game Lodge regularly for almost 30 years as part of the Whole Owner and then timeshare units and loved each and every visit. This visit to Kwafubezi was a first, and hopefully not the last time. From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed and nothing was too much trouble. Special mention for our resourceful and determined ranger Tsepho, talented chef Anna and gracious hosts Johannes and Moho. Kwafubezi, you have treasures in each of them. This is a perfect spot for family gatherings as well as small corporate retreats. There are many very pricey options for safari glamping, but why spend more than necessary? Chose Kwafubezi! Highly recommended!
Our second time visiting Kwafubesi and again, an unforgettable experience! Thank you to the incredible team who make Kwafubesi camp what it is; Johannes & Jerry the managers, Johannes the star chef for our first night, Anna the star chef for our second night and Musa the incredibly knowledgeable ranger. Everyone went out of their way to make our stay a 5-star experience and we cannot thank you all enough.
Nice and peaceful with adequate amenities, views from tents limited. Great food and management always ready to accommodate any request. Cost of drinks exorbitant, they sell bottle of Guardian Peak red for R280 and a tot of Gordon's gin for R40, that equates to R1200 a bottle which costs no more the R150.
Absolutely loved our anniversary weekend away. Loved the group of people we were with. Johannes and Margaret made sure everything ran smoothly. A special shout out and thank you to our guide Moosa. He went the extra mile the whole weekend. If you ever get the opportunity to go, ask for Moosa, you will not be sorry
In terms of facilities, more 3 star than anything else. In terms of service - really poor. We had an incredibly disappointing experience at Kwafubesi for a few reasons: 1. When we arrived the place was in disarray and no staff were present. The area and dinning lounges were not set up and the place was a bit grubby. There were chairs scattered as if there had been a function on the grounds before we arrived. The private boma also appeared as if there had also been a function there the night before and hadn't been cleaned. 3. There was only one gent present from Mabula at the camp and he seemed overwhelmed and disappeared after a few moments. 4. We had to carry all our own bags - quite a distance - to the tents. 5. We found broken toilets in some of the tents. 6. The pool was pretty dirty - we had to clean it ourselves before we could use it. 7. The facilities themselves are quite run down and the place needs an update. 8. There was a gas issue at the camp so they made us go to the main lodge to have a buffet dinner - definitely not what we paid for or the private experience we expected. 9. No aircon and no wifi - odd for what is described as luxury tents. The only reason I gave it a 2 star and not a 1 is that the game ranger was very knowledgeable and the drives themselves were good. Also, after much back & forth with management we received a partial refund.
Kwafubesi offers the kind of camping anyone would enjoy - the chance to do absolutely nothing in a luxury tent over the course of a weekend. Here, everything is taken care of for you - from being picked up at the main lodge and transported to the safari camp and welcomed with a frosty drink and hot towel for your hands, to having your luggage delivered at your luxury tent. The manager, Sammy Mokwatlo, and his staff went out of their way to make our time there as comfortable as possible. There are only five tents, set apart from each other to offer privacy, but close enough to the boma for meals and drinks. Each tent is set on a raised platform with its own deck, has a big, comfortable bed surrounded by mosquito net and an en-suite bathroom. The game rangers are very knowledgable - during our stay we had the company of, Cyrano, who proved as adept with his knowledge of the animals and fauna as he was at pouring and serving sundowners midway through the game drive. This is a great venue for a romantic getaway, and you can enjoy an early morning or afternoon game drive, a pampering spa session at the nearby Mabula Lodge, and a typical African braai for dinner in the boma. If game drives are not your thing, you can sign up for horse-riding, a ride on quad bikes or a guided bush walk. And if you just want to laze around the splash pool or the deck of your tent, then those are great options too.
I had a lovely stay at kwafubesi tented camp in the Mabula game reserve. Just 2 hours out of Pretoria, it makes for a fantastic mini getaway. The staff was lovely, the tents comfortable and the game viewing spectacular.
Really great, tents a very cold in winter, otherwise loved it. Staff are excellent and great food
Clean and well maintained. Cleaning staff are unobstrusive and efficient. Be way of the monkeys who are likely to help themselves to anything left lying around. The Dassies are cute and the hornbills are friendly. Dont forget the squirrels to keep you entertained. The heated pool in winter is a blessing for the kids in autumn and spring.
