Stayed here for three nights during our time in Kruger and absolutely loved every minute of it!! The pool area was fabulous and clean and the rooms were spacious, beautifully decorated and comfortable. The food was all home cooked and some of the best food I have ever had, Divya and the team are amazing cooks! We went on safaris each day with Bjorn and he was very kind, friendly and extremely knowledgeable! This place honestly made our time in Kruger a once in a lifetime experience and will remain a very special place in my heart! Please stay here if you are thinking of visiting Kruger, it was amazing and cannot say a bad word about it!
Good location, very comfortable and modern decoration. Super kind staff! The games with Björn are fun because he is a very good spotter. Food is amazing, I wish I could have Divya’s food everyday! Highly recommend Mbizi Bush Lodge! For sure we’re coming back!
I already miss the days I spent in Mbizi so much! This was our first safari trip and we could have not made a better choice, everything was pitch perfect - from food to game drives and infrastructure. Björn and Divya are amazing hosts and were always dedicated on us having a good time. Looking up on google, this lodge is rated at 3 stars but we had a 6 star experience. Already planning my next visit! Thank you! Rooms: Super clean, well maintained and spacious rooms with balcony. Nearby activities: Kruger national park tour - either self drive or guided Walkability: You can walk around freely if you follow the safety guidelines that are clearly stated as soon as you arrive at the lodge Food & drinks: Lovely meals from breakfast to dinner. Spent 6 nights and had unique menus every single day.
We stayed 5 nights and loved every second of it! This lodge is really living up to the great reviews it already has. We felt so welcomed into this lovely family. We especially liked that we got an honest and realistic perspective on safari and living in the nature reserves. The owners take a lot of responsibility and put a lot of effort into creating an environment where tourists and the animals can enjoy themselves and be safe. I couldn't recommend it enough.
If there's a better way to experience the bush of the Kruger region than basing your stay at Mbizi Bush Lodge, I can't imagine what it is. Mbizi is located in the Grietjie reserve, a reserve contiguous with the Kruger park itself with no wildlife fence in between. It's a small, intimate lodge right in the middle of the bush with nothing to fence the wildlife out. You'll be as close to the wildlife as its sensible to get and never closer than sensible. While we were there, Elephants came several times to drink their fill right out of the swimming pool. It was not just thrilling, but also pretty moving to be able to experience these awe inspiring animals so closely yet safely. The owners of the lodge, Bjorn and Divya, are perfect hosts and an incredible team. Bjorn's game drives through Grietjie, early morning and late afternoon, are always an adventure. He has a sixth sense for finding wildlife and knows their behavior well enough to maneuver into the optimum position to observe them. He's also an incredibly skilled driver, which we found out when a large, unseen elephant started to suddenly charge us on a tiny two track road out in the middle of the bush. He could easily have a second career as a Hollywood stunt driver. Divya, meanwhile, provides delicious home cooked breakfasts and gourmet dinners with a broad international range, a real Yotam Ottolenghi of the bush. She's also an excellent story teller with a great sense of humor. She makes everyone feel immediately like old family friends. Lodging is in a set of rondavels a few hundred feet from the main dining and pool area. They provide a nice touch of luxury right in the bush, comfy beds, terrific showers, with the sounds of the veld right outside the door. Kruger proper is only 45 minutes away, pretty close to the north/south center of the long park, so its extremely well place to explore Kruger. But we found Grietjie itself to be just as beautiful, with just as much wildlife, so you can do a lot of driving, or a little, and still have a great, wild life packed, bush experience; all for an extremely reasonable price. It's one of the best experiences we've had in any hotel. I can't imagine the more expensive lodges are even a smidgen better.
Amazing place. You are surrounded by nature and a few visitors too. See videos. We stayed in lodge 4. Was a lovely place and had everything we needed. Food was very good. I loved the beetroot tart. Went on the safari morning 05:30 and afternoon 17:00. I am not a morning person so was a bit of a struggle for me. See pics
what can we say, absolutely amazing time with this family run business, Divya, Bjorn, the 2 boys and the lovely friendly staff. No perimeter fencing made it feel very real, very wild, with animals walking by your room, a lovely chalet also. With the deck and the pool on a perch looking over the surroundings, absolute bliss. Couldn't recommend this lodge enough and we haven't even mentioned the amazing food served to us each day by Divya and co, dining at its finest. We will surely be back.
Mbizi Bush Lodge is a perfect stay. Bjorn and Divya are amazing hosts who made us feel right at home. We had successful game drives spotting Elephants, Giraffe and Lions and the meals were some of the best food we've had in SA. Rooms were super clean and comfortable and the pool/bar area is awesome. Hope to visit again one day!
We booked a 2 night package directly with Mbizi and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. The location is very peaceful and they have their own watering hole where the elephants visit just in front of the pool and outdoor seating. The package included private game drives and tours so sadly we didn't take full advantage of this but having too many amazing things to enjoy is a nice problem to have! The rooms were lovely and very well appointed with nice touches such as home made cookies on arrival and they were spotlessly clean. Perhaps the highlight for us was the food. My wife is coeliac and dairy intolerant and not only did they accommodate this they made most of the food gluten free for everyone so she didn't feel she was missing out. Some places don't take it dietary requirements as seriously as they should but Mbizi really did. Not only that the food was sublime! The included private game drives were excellent and Bjorn taught us a lot about the park and animals. The arranged day in Krueger national park was also brilliant and our guide went above and beyond to try to find us some lions sadly they were not obliging but Bjorn managed it on the last day. All in all it couldn't have been better and we would not hesitate to come back.
This was our first Safari experience and it was an amazing one. Bjorn and Divya went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great time in their Lodge. Mbizi offers a very personalized service as they only have four rooms. Bjorn is a great guide with good knowledge of the area and Divya is an amazing cooker that surprised us every night with her delicious recipes. The Logde is cozy and nice decorated and it has been recently updated to offer a great experience. As part of our package we did a 1-day excursion to the Kruger Park and it was totally worth it. Mbizi is the best price / quality option that you will find in the area.
