"The first ice rink in Cape Town opened at the Goodwood Showgrounds in 1971. The rink changed hands in 1986 and the Cape Peninsula Ice Skating Club was formed, under the management of an elected committee. The property was sold in 1994 and the rink, renamed as The Ice Station was included in the GrandWest Casino & Entertainment World Development.An Olympic sized ice surface 60m x 30m, housed in a world class facility was constructed at GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World as a joint venture to build the arena with Sun International being the landlord and the CPISC the tenant, Cape Town in December 2000. This was a lot of fun. Haven’t skated on ice in about 20 years so this was quite a nostalgic experience. Our kids loved it. They have a small rink for the really little kids and then the main big rink inside. They have different time slots throughout the day so be sure to check which slot you want so that you don’t miss out. Skates are available in all sizes, you leave your left shoe in exchange for skates and get it back when you return the skates. They do have some refreshments available inside although it was not open when we attended. Although the skating is fun, the actual seating and levels could really do with some maintenance or an upgrade. While on the ice it’s good to have someone watching your things, I’m not sure if there are lockers available to store your belongings. Lots of fun! Slots are one and half hours long so check the schedules.

One of the most amazing places in cape town you would like to visit. It really hard to skate for the first time but after few attempts you get used to it. You don't have to bring any ic skating boots, as you get boot as you book you ticket at the entrance

Grand West has loads of entertainment to offer for young and old under one roof. This place just has a certain ambience about it. My kids just love the ice rink. Ample and affordable parking.

Very full. Queues outside every single restuarant. Be sure too book before you come. Toilets are not very clean. No soap no sanitiser.

Best place for entertainment,  I had good time and good experience with my family.

I just want to commend Meagan from your team for her fantastic service.  We went to visit about 3 weeks ago, and my daughter & her friend is 7 years old. They were too tall for the small ring, but my daughter is terrified of the big ice ring.  I asked to speak with a manager, as the reason we went all the way to Grand West was for ice skating.  Meagan geared up and assisted both girls with a few rounds around the ice ring.  From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you for making it possible, and for your care, assistance, love, and support.  You made such a difference.  Keep gliding & shining!

Magical experience as the disco lights came on. Would appreciate more people on the ice to assist children who struggle to skate. Friendly workers. Bring warm clothes and fluffy socks!

Had an amazing time with my family, the vibe is great, the music is great even the staff who are on the ice helping are great. The staff helping with the shoes were amazing, they had the best attitude and never gave a sigh or bad look at anyone when asked for help. I fell a few time but that's part of the experience. Will definitely be going with family or friends again in the future, I just hope I get better at ice skating though.

Went for our daughter's birthday party with her friends. Immediately upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly staff member. A few tables were waiting for us next to the rink. Food was good value for the money. Only concern is that there is a risk of injury - especially with some semi-professional skaters who were speeding through the smaller unexperienced kids. Especially one elderly guy who probably weighs &gt;90kg was skating extremely risky and actually ran one of the kids over. - He looked so experienced that I am sure the staff at the rink know him and should ask him to reduce speed or don't come on a weekend with lots of families with small children.

It's a very nice, chilled and safe place
