Good location, good price. Historical and probably very royal in a previous era. Architecture grand, but much has degraded lifts, stair railings, corridor lights. The breakfast is good but not really a place to have a la carte dinner, even though the lounge is very nice. Basically a room service menu. Steak egg chips 3 stars. Waited 10 minutes to be seated. Safe parking. Nice safe walks close by.
I have not stayed in the rooms or spent a night there as of yet, so my review is not based on such. I recently went to the hotel for a breakfast and I was pleasantly surprised. I walk past this hotel often and the external appearance is not that appealing , hence I had low expectations for the place. However the dining area where we had the breakfast was pleasant. The food was delicious and well prepared and the staff was really helpful and friendly. Based on this breakfast experience, I wouldn't mind popping in again for another meal.
Absolutely amazing Christmas lunch. Decor was so stunning. Live entertainment, games and prizes was a real treat. Food was divine, everything we tastes was delicious. The team was so organized and hosted to perfection. Blown away by the experience. Thank you Royal Hotel team for an amazing and festive experience
I went to the hotel to relax and enjoy my birthday. I was happy with the room, however . My bed was not comfortable bed springs were making noise . The bed was just bad and in bad condition. 2. Since I arrived I bathed in cold water with very little supply. 3. There was a lick in bathroom. I don't think I will choose royal hotel again
Rooms are big and special but it was a longest three nights. Because of moist are and rooms carpeted plus the hotel is old though well taken care of. We never slept from mosquitoes was terrible we scratched ourselves through out. The bar fridge is there but not working. They did no change the bedding but flipped it over not excusable when there are visible stains because I was with my young one. Breakfast is awesome everything is there but that they use a two plate stove to pan fry all the need of fresh eggs. You will wait on a queue so long awaiting your turn till your appetite goes. The hotel must provide a egg fryer. The chefs there try to keep smile under extreme levels of pressure. The drill of going each day to the reception to stamp your parking ticket then press another floor if you are driving. The hotel is a hotel just revamp the old stuff. We were onlu eating breakfast at the hotel we bought woolies chicken thru refused to borrow us utensils. They serve with respect though
This historic hotel still has some life but no longer as glorious as she used to be. The staff were very helpful but the noise from other guests put me off. It seems to have a feel of bringing in some of the not-so-good side of downtown into it. The buffet breakfast is very very good and the rooms are large and comfortable. And it’s very central to everywhere in downtown Durban including the beautiful beaches. My wife and I had great walks while staying there and it felt quite safe during the day. And yes the views from the rooms are really great
I hated this hotel so much. It's ridiculously outdated. The carpets are dirty. The curtains are falling apart. The water is cold. Only one light works in the bedroom. ‍ The service was okay. Overall, you simply can't pay me to stay there again.Rooms: 1/5
The rooms and staff service can improve. It was quite busy, reception was operating with only 1 staff member while the other officer senior/manager was busy in office right next... On top of that while I was waiting, I thought to myself - they should now have added our new King Misuzulu's photo there next to His father's one.Rooms: 3/5
I really had a very bad experience in this hotel. 1. It looks so beautiful on the website but when you get to the hotel itself you will think that you are in a wrong place, so people should not be deceived by what they see on website, 2. The room no1346 had no air-conditioning, windows closed no air at all 3. Bathroom was smelling urinated, water dripping in the shower, water not hot. 4. I asked for the iron, they brought a very old iron with wires outside, what a risk, I had to call them to come and change that iron. The is nothing Royal about the hotel at all, even B&B I slept previously was way better than this hotel, infact the hotel was not worthy the money I paid. Security need to be vigilant as beggars were sleeping just by their entrance, so it makes their environment scary. Breakfast was good and the waiters were very nice
The bed I slept in it was terrible my whole body was sore. Their mattresses still have springs. I always thought it's an up market 5 star hotel all my life. Besides the bed all other things are good.Rooms: 2/5
