Unani Tibb Medicine is a form of Natural medicine that combines both western and eastern practices. In the theory of temperament, Unani-tibb recognises that every individual's unique according to their physical, mental, emotional make-up and therefore recognises that each of us are predisposed to various illness if the harmonious balance of this composition is not maintained. This form of medicine also recognises the body's inherent ability to maintain balance and counter disease and acts to assist in this process to achieve health. There are a number of aspects that are involved in treatment and management of the patient including evaluation of the patient's temperament to determine which conditions they are predisposed to, assessing their diet and lifestyle and adjusting it accordingly to prevent and treat illness in combination of herbal medications and alternative therapies such as massage and cupping therapy to achieve healing.
What to expect during a consultation?
As a Unani-Tibb Practioner we have the basis as any other medical consultation except that we aim to provide an individual experience that will educate the patient to prevent illness and disease and treat the cause or origin if the disease and not just the symptoms. We equip our patients with the relevant information to maintain a balanced lifestyle.
During consultation:
Full medical history is taken as well as evaluation of the patient's temperament to determine any predisposed illness conditions.
Temperament analysis: looking at physical appearance, metabolism, personality type, emotional factors and mental activity.
Tongue analysis: Analysing the appreance of the tongue and utilising it as a map of the major oragan systems to determine where the imbalance is
Pulse analysis: Feeling the quality of the pulse in terms of speed, texture, regularity etc. to assist in determining the imbalanced quality or temperament of the person.
Full medical examination of the various systems of the body based on the presenting illness complaint where a diagnosis is made.
Individualised treatment and management based on the presenting illness condition and his or her temperament which may involve:
nutritional/dietary and lifestyle advice (foods to be eaten and avoided, breathing exercises for balancing emotions, exercise advice, detoxification)
Alternative therapies such as massage, indian head massage and cupping therapy.
