Placing a parent in a nursing home is difficult. I like Amsterdam Nursing; it's clean, the nurses my mother has had so far have been delightful and the CNAs. However, I believe it's because I make my presence known, and I am an advocate for my mother.
The issue I have with Amsterdam Nursing is that they don't supply long-term care residents with phones which is insane. I tried to get Spectrum phone only service but during the set-up, the tech informed me that it would require a cable box forcing me to order cable, and that's unfair.
Sadly, I can't afford another 100.00 cable bill, and my mom struggles with the cell phone, so it's easier to have a landline, but that seems impossible. Calling the nurses station is a nightmare, the phone just rings and rings.
Overall, I am not unhappy with the place, and everyone I speak with says, it's a stable environment with a handful of flaws, but nothing in this world is perfect.
I will say this; you have to advocate for your loved one and visit regularly, a loved one's presence is critical. I am there a lot which is why I believe they treat my mom well. However, I also live close by making it easy to pop in, but that's not realistic for a lot of people who work and live further away from the nursing home.

Spent 6 horrible weeks there for rehab. The site hasn't left the 19th century, ring a call button, light goes on outside door, have to wait until someone see the light and asks what you want.
Nothing is computerized. Rehab patients have nothing to but to sit in room.
I was there for leg problems but was on a floor where everyone had stroke problems but me.
Air conditioning always out as well as elevators. Most of all, the staff rude and uncaring.Avoid it like the plague F

The main problem I had with Amsterdam is that they are understaffed. Aides and doctors have way too many patients to be effective, so I found myself going constantly to make sure my family member had adequate care. Unfortunately patients who had no one to advocate for them often fell through the cracks. The administration was a nightmare. The medicaid officers were very pushy and insensitive, especially Geeta, and they took forever to get approval. There are some fantastic social workers, but the head of the department (at that time it was Yoko) made it impossible for them to help as much as they could have. There are some wonderful and caring staff throughout the building, but ultimately it's too poorly run for patients to thrive.
