Terrible, the worst of the worst. You can compare this to a cemetery of living people. I don't understand how some people leave their loved ones here. The worst living conditions ever. The staff is rude and scream at the patients. When the staff clean the patients they use one towel, one half of the towel is wet and they use it to clean the patient. With the other dry side of the same towel they use it to dry the patient. It's so bad here that 0 stars would be too much of a rating for this place.

I come here as a job related visit only. So my opinion is based on a work related experience not as a visitor.

Do not be fooled by the gorgeous chandelier in the lobby; this place is the worse of the worse of nursing homes. The first nite my mother was admitted she needed something to eat since she is a diabetic. They brought her what was supposed to be a pizza bagel. It was a plain bagel with some ketchup and fake cheese on it. When we told the nurse that she couldn't eat the fake pizza she was then brought a tuna sandwich that looked as if it had died a lonely death in the back of some fridge. Since then there have been complaints of mice in her room and in other places of the facility almost every night, the physical therapy that she needs in order to go back home was discontinued months ago and requests to transfer to another NH totally ignored. The food is horrible and comes to the patient cold and over cooked and just about inedible. The worse thing is that her pension that had been and should be direct deposited to her bank account has been illegally subverted to the nursing home even though nobody ever told me about it even though it was understood that she cannot sign ANYTHING without my reading and approval it since she is confused a lot of the time. When I reminded the social worker of this he told me that my mother is as competent as HE says she is; so in other words even if I were to say that she is not able to understand or remember any documents that she is told to sign his assessment of her mental faculties supercedes mine; even as her daughter. I asked the manager of this facility to do something about the inedible food and stolen pension fund and I haven't heard back from him in some time.
My mother also complained about the theft of items from the patients and her floor mates agreed that there is a theft problem that has gone unchecked. It is very easy to say that other patients and their families complain because they can when you are being paid to say good things about the facility. I guess we're all lying and that my mothers stolen money just evaporated into thin air. Go there and quietly look around and most importantly talk to the residents there. Then turn around and go somewhere else. Google and do some research before sending someone you love to this hellhole, something I wish I had had more time to do but we all know how hospitals are when insurance decides its time to go.

My husband unfortunately was there for a year. I could go on and on about the unconscionable conditions. But I won't. Finally he is now in an excellent nursing home. I went to pick up his belongings to bring them to the new nursing home. I received 2 boxes. When I opened them at the new nursing home, the clean clothes were in the boxes with urine soaked clothes. And none of his personal items were there including personal photographs that were on his bulletin board (irreplaceable), a homemade quilt, his telephone charger, 6 sketch pads filled with his original artwork (irreplaceable), his wheelchair pouch, tuba valve oil, his tuba mouth piece, his eyeglasses, a radio. and a leather tuba case. The social worker offered me $50 for all his lost items. An insult to my husband and myself. But the worst thing is that his "good" leg had to be amputated because the nursing staff did not see that his toes were turning black. They claim they didn't notice because my husband is Afro-American. By the time they did notice, it was too late. BEWARE THIS PLACE.

My granfather just came home after being in fort tryon for a few months. I have to say that he went to fort tryon with little hope for ever walking again. He had a massive stroke & the doctors said that he may never walk again. It was scary! My dad asked some people for recomendations. We decided on Fort tryon. It was the best decision he made! My granpa is home & walking! We never thought it would happen. He still has a long way to go, but they got him to walk!! The staff was very patient with him, but pushed him to get stronger. They really motivated him. I dont know why other people wrote bad stuff about this place. Of course its not perfect, but its very clean & the care is great. The rooms are a little small, but who cares! The food is ok. I know that some people will never be happy no matter where they are. Under the circumstances, I have to say that its really a great place. Whenever we had a question, the staff was able to answer or get someone who could answer. I feel bad that other people posted nasty comments. My suggestion is that you go there in person & see for yourself!
