The park has some beautiful scenery and quiet places to enjoy nature. Unfortunately the hiking trails are not maintained. Many sections of the trail are overgrown with weeds and most of the wooden structures along the trails are decaying and have serious damage. I recommend sticking to the more traveled sections of the trails on the south side of the park (the self-guided loop that goes from near the front entrance down to the spillway and back is nice). If I want to visit the other sections of the park I usually just walk along the paved road that goes around the park. It's not the same hiking experience, but it's what you settle for when the trails are in such poor shape.

It was so much better when I was a kid. As a licensed insurance agent, I understand the difficulties that made them have to take out the petting zoo and the in-ground trampoline in the marvelous wooden rubber Fort that was just kick ass. That said, my nine-year-old son and I had a fantastic hike today near the water line and we found interesting fungus formations puffball and shelf varieties as well as traces of where raccoons have been eating fish and clams. They also happen to have the maple syrup Festival on but once you've gone to it one year you're good for a few I think. My two cents anyway.

Beautiful park for camping. Picnics and fishing. I grew up going here all the time. It's nicely taken care of and quiet place for you to enjoy.
