The volunteer that helped us was very knowledgeable. We chose a beautiful orange and white kitten,Thomas. My husband was iffy about having a cat ( his first ) but he now agrees Thomas is a delight.
We liked Thomas, now named Rusty so much, we returned to get him a " friend " and picked a buff kitten now named Dusty. It takes good light to tell them apart. They like each other and are both wonderful! Our thanks to everyone at the shelter.

I live two hours away. I spoke with a lady about an amazing dog who took forever to get back to me. I told her I would drive there right then. This was at 1 pm. By the time she got back to me at 330 the meet and greet lady left. She told me to drive all the way there anyway that they could hold her once I got there and I said okay leaving now. When I got there she was spoken for. No call. Nothing. I did a four and a half hr round trip for nothing. The lady specifically told me to come when I asked to wait until Monday. Had she been more timely in calling me back, I would have been there long before the dog was spoken for. The lady who turned me away when we got there had an attitude and said she was right next to her and heard her tell me there was no guarantee. Yet no one bothered to call me knowing it was a long drive. A full tank of gas for nothing. I have adopted from them before and it was an amazing experience. This was a few years back. Idk who is running the show now, but all they care about is money obviously because their integrity is out the window!!!!!!!! Not to mention I had my seven year old son with me who was heart broken and bawling and not a single one of them cared.
I feel so bad for the poor animals there. If they care so little about making sure honesty and integrity is involved in the homing process, I can only imagine how they are treated......,:,

Adopted my first pup this past weekend and the staff was lovely and answered all my questions. They sent us home with antibiotics for his Lyme disease free of charge, and provided lots of resources to get us started taking care of him. The staff is very friendly and certainly care about what they're doing.

Went to take our daughters to get a cat. The first two ladies that helped us were absolutely amazing. The woman we talked to and filled out paperwork to adoption a kitten wasn’t really interested in helping us adopt the cat. They can say they are wanting to help the animals all they want but it’s a lie. Will never go there again and will never recommend anyone going there.

We had originally heard some people having bad experiences at the Charlottesville SPCA. I haven't heard that it is difficult to adopt from them, even though they say that they are at times. I have to say that we had the complete opposite experience. From the day we walked in and the original SPCA handler basically interviewed us after we had our paperwork done, we were worried that they were judging us and thinking that we would not be able to handle a big dog. The other three small fur babes that you see in the photos are our original dogs. We have had them for years. We were worried that adopting a big dog trouble and that they wouldn't get along. Our small dogs have big dog friends, however we have never taken any big dog.
I could not stop thinking about this white pit boy since we met him on Sunday, 3 days ago. Yesterday I called and set up a meet and greet with him. The meet and greet with our other dogs, the SPCA workers decided that they did not need to do a home inspection, that we are good and responsible pet owners. They told us we could take him home with us. That we did.
He is beyond happy. We are elated. To all who took care of him, trained him and helped us with this process... THANK YOU. ❤ I have a new running buddy. His name is now Griffey.
