We had been looking to adopt for a while. A lot of places are trying to do right trying to help pets find their forever home but some of the places we applied to were challening to work with. We THE BEST experience with this rescue. They were thoughtful, compassionate and so courtesy to us throughout our adoption process. They worked with us on our timeline and took amazing care of all the animals under their roof. We are especially grateful to Tracy and Jill who are amazing at what they do. We are also thankful for all the volunteers we never got to meet who took good care of our sweet pet before we adopted him!! We can't say enough good things about this rescue!!!!

My respects to this no-kill shelter. The animals are very well treated, with a lot of love and respect. Looking for a new friend, this is the place to go!

I found my forever friend, Sparky, at the Stafford SPCA after months of looking online using Google searches that linked me to PetFinder and PetSmart Charities. Travelling from Bowie as far out to Centerville then down to Stafford, adding up to 150+ miles was worth visiting Stafford's SPCA. My communication started with an email because after finding dogs online that I liked, it turned out to be disappointing when they were either adopted or pending, despite the website stating their availability the day of. Tracy was a pleasure to work with and quite responsive in emailing and calling me to talk about her animals. I found her very professional and caring as if the animals were her own, to include the volunteers that were present. The SPCA was clean, organized and it was evident that the staff took great pride in their work. Tracy gave me a tour of the facility and extensive background on my future pet such as their room set-up, the history of the previous owner, their personality and complete medical history. I met him in the yard where the dogs could play, which provided an open area to see the pets in a familiar area and allowed me to observe him while she and I continued chatting. Tracy was observing my interaction as part of a vetting process upon receipt of my application, which was taken into consideration for adoption purposes. Before leaving, I provided an application and while I felt intimidated while my application was pending review, it turned out to be a win-win-win for me, Sparky, and the SPCA as another success story for others to read. She explained to me that the application would be reviewed and a decision would be made within several days due to prior applications and a busy schedule. On the second day, I received an email that my application checked out and the next step would be to schedule a home visit. Jill, an SPCA staff member joined our email and she and I coordinated our meeting to complete the process. She kept me informed from the schedule time to include any delays since it'd be a drive and unpredictable traffic in the DMV. I gave her the tour of my house and she carefully took everything into consideration so I felt a bit nervous, unknowing if she would see something that could prevent me from adopting. A folder was provided at the time of adoption with complete medical history and since Tracy emailed me a draft adoption contract, the process was just a matter of initially and signing before he became a member of my family. This was the most positive adoption experiences I've ever had and when compared to other adoption stories, this SPCA was amazing from start to finish. I would definitely recommend Stafford's SPCA to anyone looking to adopt since their site is up-to-date and the staff is knowledgeable when it comes to finding their pets forever families.

I volunteer here and I can vouch for them. Amazing people who treat their animals with the best care they can. They'll take any animals they can, reptiles, birds, mammals, whatever, however they normally have cats and dogs.
I would adopt all of the dogs if I could ❤

This place is amazing. If you are considering adopting a pet call them first. Yes, they have an adoption process. You must fill out an application prior to meeting the pet and a home visit is also required. Their visits are by appointment only. My family and I drove a little over two hours to meet a pet at the shelter. You drive up a long drive way and open a gate. When you get to the top of the hill there is a small brick building. The staff told us that until a few years ago it was nursing home. Now each dog has it's own room, and these rooms are grand, they are in fact, old hospital rooms. The place was very clean and did not have any "animal shelter smell." The dog was sweet and gentle, but unfortunately was not the right fit for our family. The staff understood that it broke our hearts not to get him because he was so sweet. They kept in touch with us and let us know when the dog was adopted out, just so we'd know he was okay. They also kept in touch with us as we looked at other dogs in other locations and vowed to help us until we found the pet that was right for us. You can't ask for more than that, and you won't get that anywhere else. Some of the reviews didn't like the "appointment only" situation, but this is to give you and the dog time alone in the shelter and the yard to bond with no distractions. And their process is truly to help match the right dog with the right owner. I would highly recommend you check this place out.
