The volunteers and staff work so hard to care for each dog or horse that is given to this humane society. If they need love, training or have pre-existing conditions, it is dealt with. If they have medical needs, it is taken care of. The dog houses are heated and air conditioned, as well as cleaned (and they are fed) twice a day, plus the volunteers interact with them as much as possible.
The horses have stall and pasture time, depending on the season, and the staff is so knowledgeable about these beautiful and majestic animals.
The whole facility is so clean and you can see how much love and effort everyone puts into their "jobs".
The cats are housed at another facility in Fairfax City.

Great place to go and feel terrible when you have to leave.

Great place! The farm is well kept, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the adoption process is very easy. We got our puppy there, and she had obviously been well looked after.

Hey Carl, I understand your frustration. But I hope you will keep an open mind. I only visited the cat site on Rte123 in Fairfax, so I cannot speak to the aspect of their rescued dogs, horses and whatever else.
I am sorry you had this experience, do let them know. They understand the implications of this, even from one voice. We don't want to shy people away from adopting (from any reputable rescue) because they had to deal with bad conditions and people who were rude.
As for my experience, I was treated with compassion as I chose a cat to adopt from them, (several times in fact) as my former cat had to be put to sleep the day before (kidney failure). I can't go 24 hours without a furry companion. The cat I chose had been returned to them TWICE, because she bites. But I am cat savvy and can work with that. It tugged at my heart because their honesty about what each cat needs, and its history, are very helpful. I had my beautiful Sophie for the remainder of her life. Yes, she did bite (her 1st owner declawed her front paws and this is a common reason they bite). She didn't break the skin, and it usually happened when I pet her too much, and didn't notice what her whipping tail was telling me! Eventually, with care and trust, the biting nearly ceased. But I've been bitten by horses, so a cat bite that doesn't break the skin is nothing in comparison.
I hope folks will adopt! And I hope you found a great dog, Carl.
