Consulate General of the Russian Federation in New York

I can understand those people who get frustrated with our "unobtrusive" Russian service and to get your appointment and the passport itself take months (which I find ridiculous, too). However, before going there, read instructions which are in Russian and English. It is not the consulate fault that some people are lazy and do not want to get prepared properly. I have collected all the necessary paperwork in advance and my appointment took 15 minutes!

Before going over there to renew my passport I read the reviews over here and was terrified. I expected to be berated at the door and humiliated while going through the application process. To my surprise, it was not the case. There was to line outside the embassy as some people say. I entered the building right away and waited for my turn for about 10 minutes only. The staff members were polite and welcoming. I don't know maybe it was their pay day the day I went there but everyone, including the security guy, was unexpectedly nice. It was my first time to visit this consulate so I cannot compare it to what was going on before but looking at the previous reviews I think they really did a great job and improved the staff attitudes and overall organization. Just register online on their website and go without any fear, it's pretty decent over there now.

Visited it yesterday. Was pleasantly surprised by long-awaited changes: we were welcomed by a very polite and courteous guard at the entrance, experienced no wait time at all - we were invited in immediately despite coming ~20 min early, automated electronic-ticketed lines (plenty of slots working), smiling and helpful personnel. Amazing changes, if you ask me! Guys, please stay like that - it does make a huge difference.

Excellent service. Very friendly stuff. Everything was very well organized, with minimal wait time. Processed our paperwork very promptly and adequately. Inside was comfortable, warm and clean.

If you will be attentive and you will prepare all documents for visit of Consulate then you will not have a problem there. You will not spend a lot of time there.
