50 miles away, it took us 4 hours to get there. The roads are tightly winding, and next to a cliff. If you have health issues, like back pain or anxiety, medicate first!!! There were very few gaurd rails up, they had obviously burned out during the fires. There was a heartbreaking amound of burned acreage. Take food and drinks. There was a couple of restaurants up there, but they were closed down and for sale. Almost every property we passed was for sale. The fires have scared the homeowners into a fearful reality. Look for the pathway sign, we almost missed it. The paths through out the forest are paved, and can accomidate a wheelchair or scooter. Dont go alone. There is no cell service anywhere up there. We were really lucky that we stopped and got a paper map of the trails and roads. (From the visitor center) There are gifts and books there, very overpriced. The girl at the front desk really wasn't very knowledgeable about the Seqoias at all. I suggest not making the trip in November, we not only ran into very deep fog, but snow and ice at the 6,000 feet area. Wear boots! Take jackets and gloves! Walking sticks are highly advisable!!
