Nice piece of history to visit. Been to a lot of old forts. This was a pretty large site. Pretty limited to what structures are open to the public but it is because they are remodeling quite a number of them right now.
This fort operates on donation. There is nothing to pay to see the site.
Amazing though that this fort operated for nearly 67 years before being decommissioned.

Fascinating! No matter the degree of your history "buffness", you will be intrigued and awestruck with what this attraction has to offer. The museum is well kept and staffed, there is no charge. The old photos on the walls and artifacts found around the fort are well described. You are free to walk around the various areas of the fort such as the parade grounds, the church, the tent city which was for consumptive patients. Placards posted in these areas tell you the history of that particular area. The drive to Fort Stanton should not be a deterrent to your visit since it, too, is worth it.

Fun place for all ages. The "Laundress" was great at staying in character :)

A lot of unexpected history, German sailors? Some restoration work progressing. Very informative as a look back in time.

Very enjoyable visit. Nice visitor center and nice grounds. There are many historic buildings to visit. The buildings all have very good signage and are very informative. The drive from Ruidoso to the fort is also very scenic and not very long. A good place to spend a few hours and learn about the local military history.
