Highland Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

It's the worst place ever. It didn't become like this until the new Administrator came back in October/November of last year. She is suppose to be an Administrator but she is in every place including DON, nursing, rehab, whatever. She has cause all the good employees to leave. She speaks to her staff with no respect and expects staff to respect her. She is racist on top of everything else. They are working with only 4 CNA's on first shift. The place smells awful but instead she is trying to make it look like you are walking into a mansion. I just went and visit with my mother and her face looked as if it hadn't been washed all day. She was covered in stool and flies all around her. Maybe if they got away with the Administrator that is worried about a dollar and put someone in there that actually cares about the residents then the place wouldn't have a bad name. I don't who decided to make her an Administrator but they need to be fired right along with her. Syreeta Parham doesn't have the first clue about running a facility. Maybe she should pack up her things and go back to whatever she was before.

After speaking to the Admission's coordinator I would not recommend anyone to submit paperwork for your loved one to be admitted into this facility. The staff is very rude I filed admissions paperwork almost a month and a half ago and did not receive a call back. After calling and calling I was finally able to get in contact with the Admissions rep for her to tell me she did not have to give me an explanation as to why his paperwork was denied and that was at her discretion.

It's ashamed the stars do not go into the negative. My mother was supposed to be there for diet control and observation. While in their care she fell four times in less than week secondary to them giving her to much pain medicine (not overdosing or anything like that, but if you need to walk your patient up to give them narcotics they probably don't need anymore)...also she did not eat for two days (because she was gorked out on narcotics….and no one on the staff bothered to say think hey maybe we should ask a doctor this patient has not eaten in 2 days......even after they identified her as a "fall risk" it still took over 24 hours to get a fall mat in her room (and of course there was no-one watching her).....despite begging with the staff to check on her at 11pm (the time she fell ever night for three nights in a row) the staff did not go and check on her....when I asked why they did not check on her I was told "It was shift change".....anyway I cannot say enough bad things about this place.....they did have a good laundry service and management dutifully listened to my complaints, nodded, and pretended to listen (even took notes, but they could’ve just been doodling) when I told them what was going on....but as of yet I still have not received the promised follow-up from my complaint and it has been over 3 months.....anyway I'm sure the staff are caring and capable individuals who do their best....but I will not be allowing any of my loved ones to be admitted to this facility....I would recommend anyone who does just follow up daily to make sure things are going as they are suppose to....and I will be fair and say maybe I just caught them on an exceptionally busy week or something but in my eyes that is not an excuse....the only silver lining is that because of the drugs she does not remember anything.
