This facility in my view is cherry picking patients Report confirms nursing homes cherry-pick patients. Federal officials say it is illegal for Medicare-certified SNFs to discriminate against Medicare patients, but it's not illegal to say 'we don't have space for the patient'. This facility said they couldn’t take my inlaw who was entering for a rehab stay because they felt he “may” end up needing long term care. Although they have beds for long term care patients. But this isn’t the case he was going form rehab. There reason for Not taking him seemed not only illegal but discriminatory to seniors. They did have available beds for rehab patients but they said they were afraid he may become Long term patient which is total illegal to deny him for this reason. Seniors Have rights and facilities such as this one Should be charged for discriminatory behavior. We need politician to stop this behave . These 5 and 4 star facilities should”nt be allowed to do this .there only reason for not taking him is obvious they are afraid he may become a long term and as Medicaid patient they don’t get paid from Medicaid as they do for self pay Patients . It’s totally disgusting behavior on the part of these facilities. If your a Medicaid patient you always get the worst facilities. The inspector general should be looking into this type of behavior from skilled nursing facilities

The facility is clean and extremely well managed. It's not perfect. Not by a long shot. In my father's time there--both as a rehab patient and later as a terminal patient--we had both good and bad experiences. But having been to multiple other facilities, the care here is better and if there's a problem, at least they really try to accommodate and address the issue. Almost all facilities have some staff members who really stand out. The problem is that in this industry, there are always some bad apples/less caring/cutting corners. This facility did a better job than others in ensuring consistent care, even with perpetually limited resources. As a pure rehab facility, the place does have more of a hospital look & feel. The staff is good (meaning trained--by in large they know what they are doing or will know what they are doing if they're new), but they are also dealing with very sick patients, so they're spread very thin (as is the case everywhere), especially on weekends. They are pretty consistent with the activities schedule. Most other places have these great sales pitches and calendars chocked-full of things to do, much of which never happens. So in summary, as a rehab place, it's good. As a final place for someone needing a lot of care it's excellent, when compared to other facilities advertising similar services.

I went for a tour due to a family member needing short term rehab. Due to the 5 star rating Medicare.gov gives them, I was expecting something above the rest. I was disappointed. Perhaps it was my tour guide, but I would think the tour guide would be very informational and work towards a great first impression. The facility was very clean; however, it appeared to lack some of the other amenities that I believe are important. Dining for short term rehab is in the patient's room only,. I wasn't even shown the dining room on my tour. Activities are listed and appear to be the same as the other rehab facilities. However, I did not see any patient interaction, activities or anything. Everyone was in their room, mostly in bed or watching TV. It was more like a hospital than a rehab. Which didn't give me the impression that people are encouraged to move and strengthen themselves outside of the PT session. I did not get a friendly vibe from anyone. My tour guide rudely talked to a nurse aide during my tour. What bothered me the most was that the tour guide did not seem to be educated on the facility or on how the facility functions. She wasn't able to answer basic rehab questions, that were answered to satisfaction at the other rehabs I toured. I was frustrated that I was not able to see the 5 star rating in action myself. Again, perhaps it was just the tour guide.... or perhaps the 5 star rating allows Rex to feel like they have room to slack? Not sure, perhaps it is great... but we are choosing another facility.

I recently spent 14 days in the rehab center. I received excellent care from a friendly, caring staff. I came there in a wheelchair and left walking with a cane, and I credit the therapists for my progress.

My mom came to Rex of Apex for Rehab services after an acute illness. When it became clear that she would not be able to return home, we arranged for her to stay in long term care there. She enjoyed the activities, her room and the friendly and helpful staff. Mom passed away not too long ago, but I wanted to publicly say how blessed we were to have had Rex of Apex in our lives. The staff...from custodians to doctors to administration are top notch! They always communicated promptly and were responsive to our concerns. The facility is always spotless. Can't say enough good about this place.
