The hotel is under a update. I got in one of the updated rooms. Overall not too bad. Clean, bed were comfortable. The only issue I had was the gym. Sorry but I only could stay in there to work out for 30 minutes because it smelled like someone died in there or a old man just worked out.

Run of the mill Holiday Inn, has restaurant/bar, free shuttle (didn't use) outside looks "newer", lobby is relatively modern but that's where it seems to end, room was rather dated with older styled bulky furniture which steals away from the otherwise good sized room with somewhat tacky decor, but bed and pillows were comfortable aside from random hairs found on the linens.
This hotel has one of the largest incidental holds I've ever encountered, was more than the room cost in fact. They also charge patrons $10/night to park (which the front desk person made no mention of, until I discovered it for myself after reading the parking slip), also was not listed on the booking site I used. I understand charging if you're taking up a spot while you're on your cruise like many utilize this hotel for, but not for normal customers.
Glad I didn't pay full price with the above encountered issues, since hotels never seem to compensate, other than saying sorry and offering to come stay again.

3/27/18 Looking forward to my cruise, I start the booking process using rewards points, at the long beach downtown holiday inn. Well that’s where things go wrong quickly. I’m told that even if I pay $10 a night for parking I would have to find my own way to the cruise port and pay another $15 to take a taxi over. They advertise “free shuttle” within a 3 mile radius of the hotel, which the cruise port is. But no, as a rewards member I have to find my own way. Never seen a place that actually penalizes it’s rewards members. And not even giving them any other option. Needless to say reservation cancelled. I’d rather pay and be treated decently than get something for free and be treated subpar.

Would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that the folded welcome washcloth with soap in the bathroom, once unfolded, revealed a larger wad of what looked like foundation or concealer or poo and dirt. Clearly I don't wear makeup because I don't even really know the difference, which is an issue in and of itself- like why don't I know the difference between poo, concealer, foundation? 🤔 - but that's neither here nor there. Otherwise, the room and my short stay were perfect.

The rooms and really nice considering the price. There is a breakfast, lunch, and bar. The shuttle will take you and pick you up anywhere within a 3 mile radius of the hotel.
