Iowa Beef Steak House

I am in Des Moines for work and drove all the way here because of the name and good reviews, I didn't want a steakhouse chain. When I first pulled into the parking lot, I was the only car probably besides the employees and I confirmed that when I walked in: I was the only customer in this whole place. It was 7:30pm on a Wednesday. The staff was extremely friendly, and after I ordered my steak they directed me to the salad bar. The lettuce didn't seem too fresh, but this is pretty much your basic salad bar. Nothing special. I order the T-Bone steak which was cooked perfectly and tasted so good! You can tell that this place used to be the it place to eat steaks many years ago and it isn't anymore, but besides the awkwardness of sitting in a restaurant all by myself, the food and service more than. Made up for it

Iowa beef steakhouse is a local favorite of mine. The salad bar is great, not quite Chicago speakeasy great, but still very good. The steaks are the main attraction. I favor the kabob, but all of the cuts are very good and they are cooked perfectly every time. Also, the Texas toast is suuuuper tasty!

Amazing cocktails and steak. Superb salad bar. Wonderful service! Will definitely make the 1.5 hour drive to this restaurant again!

I was able to get a kids meal as an adult for just an extra $3 with the salad bar. The steak was delicious, the server was VERY attentive. I walked away stuffed and happy. It was pretty slow inside today but it worked in our favor. Our server heard someone mention there was no cheese on the salad bar and she immediately brought shredded cheese to the table without us having to ask.

My family and I used to frequent Iowa Beef Steak house a few years back. I held a lunch meeting there recently and how the mighty have fallen. Watching the cook microwave the mushrooms was a turn off. I was surprised to see they way they have set up shop around the grill. Very A&E hoarder looking. I was hopeful when the new owners bought it, that some much need updates would happen. Very sad to see a place that I used to love to eat turn into a place I wouldn't feed my dog at.
