Seriously the BEST SOUL FOOD in the existence of all soul food. Ms. Sylvia is the sweetest, sassiest and best cook I’ve had the pleasure of meeting! I would DEFINITELY recommend everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, come and experience this soul-happy food. And that apricot pie though!!!! Yummm

This was an all-around wonderful experience. There is a really homey feel and everyone talks together as a group. Mrs. Sylvia and her family, employees and the other customers made our meal a very enjoyable, fun time. And the absolute best smothered pork and banana pudding I have had in my life. The chicken fried steak, Mac and cheese, fried okra, green beans, and hot water cornbread were all amazing, too. The lemonade is real, and very good. We will definitely be back.

Nicest people on earth. Food like grandma made. Just like grandma's, too much. Fried green tomatoes to die for. Had a couple of bites of the legendary pork chops. Melt in your mouth. Pea salad from the Garden of Eden. And best sweet tea ever. Hot water cornbread is addictive. Wonderful experience.

I am a regular at Mrs. Sylvia's. I have been since she opened. I was reading the reviews and most people agree with me that her food is EXCELLENT! However, there were the occasional whiny, never happy, and always critical commentators that were scattered among the reviews.
Here is some enlightenment for those who criticized...
Mrs. Sylvia cooks what she loves. She often works as the hostess, waitress, cook, media coordinator, and cashier ALL BY HERSELF! She doesn't complain and always had a smile on her face.
You can taste that graciousness and love in her cooking (for those who can appreciate it). The restaurant is as humble as the woman that runs it. It is not ritzy or pretentious. It is a place much like your grandmother's and just as welcoming.
Mrs. Sylvia's is very busy at lunch time (read above to see why). So long waits are inevitable. Strike up a conversation with the tables around you to pass the time. You might learn some things. (Like manners)
Mrs. Sylvia's is also a localized small business. This is her living. Her prices reflect the quality and time put into making her food. If you are looking for a value meal, there is McDonald's, Jack-in-the-Box, and Denny's.
But if you can appreciate the hard work, patience, hospitality, and love that is fundamental to Soul Food cuisine...Mrs. Sylvia's is the place you want to eat.

Learned about Sylvia Mae's from Daytripper on PBS. Great good, friendly atmosphere, and a wonderful front porch to enjoy your meal.
