Travelodge by Wyndham Iowa City

This was a decent place to stay. Not really impressive, but the room was clean and fine. Everything was fairly typical of a hotel in this price range. I was glad to find a place in the evening at such a good rate. Staff was reasonably friendly, but a bit paranoid (photocopying licences because of past issues). Breakfast was acceptable with several options, but fewer than other hotels have. Pool was a win for the kids. It was perfect for them, being shallow (1.5-4 ft) and a bit warmer than most hotel pools. That was a winner for us, since we have little kids. So if you have little ones that love pools, this may be the place. If you are after romantic ambiance, probably not the place.

We had a pet-friendly room with 2 double beds. It was a big room with vinyl plank flooring, quite dark. Could use some lighting by the door/closet area. Grout in bath was moldy. Beds were stiff, which I like. No channel guide. AC unit under the window blew the short curtains around, a little annoying. The whole place was a little run down, could use some TLC. Front desk person was friendly. Pet fee was only $10. Pool was OK, clean, not crowded, but after 10 hours of driving I was wishing for a hot tub. Breakfast was breads, cereals, a waffle maker, plus biscuits, sausage gravy and small cheese omelettes. OK.

You can tell the new manager is working to improve the quality at an older hotel and doing a great job! Our room was pleasant and did not smell like smoke ( because some guests will smoke even if the sign says they will be charged a whopping cleaning fee if they do ) nor heavy cleaning sprays ( sometimes used to cover smells). The heater/cooling unit was quiet and efficient. The tiles in the bathroom had seen better days but it was clean. Our room was clean and well stocked. And in the morning, not terribly early the cleaning people were on the job cleaning rooms, mopping floors, and vacuuming. Breakfast was good and the desk person was attentive to refills and guest requests. It was reasonably priced which is important for someone on a limited budget!The location was close to the interstate which was convenient for us. I will stay again when I have function in Iowa City or nearby.

Hotel was clean, quiet and very comfortable. The Managers name is Drew he is a wonderful person. He assisted my husband and I by adding two nights to our stay due to my husbands health issues and then weather issues quickly and used a affordable rate. That really helped us during such a stressful time. Thank you again!

This place was great -- no complaints whatsoever. The pool was pretty nice, room was spacious with a comfy bed and nice amenities to boot. Had complimentary breakfast in the morning and was more than satisfied with what they offered. Front desk guy was helpful and pleasant. Definitely will consider this place on the next visit to Iowa City -- especially for such a great price.
