The evaluation of my hearing and recommendations for aids was very thorough and tailored to my needs and budget. Scheduling for follow up visits was very flexible and easy to schedule.

Dr. Johnson was helpful, knowledgeable, and personable. The hearing aids and ancillary equipment were checked out thoroughly before the sale. My needs were satisfied and hearing improved. The diagnostic equipment for evaluating my hearing was very good. The processes for using the equipment were gone through thoroughly, with my full participation. An auxiliary piece of equipment that would not integrate with my home theater system was returned without any difficulty. The front office staff were friendly and helpful as well. The office is near the entrance on the first floor, so there's no access problem. Lastly, there weren't lengthy waits for appointments at the time I was scheduling with the center.

I chose to go to UNC because I wanted an experience untainted by commercial considerations or sales pitches. I am totally satisfied with my complete process - from the initial audio gram screening to the prescription recommended by Dr. Sharon Johnson. Incidentally, that recommendation was NOT for the most expensive aids. I am doing very well with my mid-level aids and have found that they are comfortable to wear all day from post-shower until bedtime. I’ve had no problems with the adjustment to using hearing aids probably because I went quite early in my hearing loss. I recommend that anyone whose family or friends have mentioned the need for assessment do that at once. And I would recommend UNC for that.

Spanning more than ten years, the audiologists & office staff have been very courteous, extremely helpful, informative, and steadfast in selecting the most effective technology to overcome the reasons for my hearing loss. The services provided have been well worth any price differences that might exist elsewhere.

My 90-year-old mother's hearing had changed over the past year and her old hearing aids simply weren't working very well anymore. We talked about going to the UNC Hearing and Communication Center to see if newer hearing aids could help her, but mom was very skeptical that getting new hearing aids would really help. Long story short: Dr. Sjoblad and her grad students fitted mom with a new set of hearing aids that have really improved mom's life. She can hear her son on the phone; she can understand what is said while at the bridge table; and she is constantly telling me to speak more softly (something I haven't done in years because shouting was the only way she could hear me!). Dr. Sjoblad is patient and compassionate; her demeanor always calms my mom down; she listens carefully to mom’s concerns and comes up with creative solutions to solve problems; and she is happy to take the time to fine tune mom’s hearing aids so mom can get the most out of them. Dr. Sjoblad is the best!
