Washington Crossing Historic Park

About

With over 500 acres of history, natural beauty and family fun, Washington Crossing Historic Park preserves the site where Washington crossed the Delaware.

Story

The 500-acre Washington Crossing Historic Park hosts thousands of visitors every year who come to see the point from which a battered and dispirited American army launched a counterattack that reversed its long losing streak, preserving its will to fight.

The park also contains restored colonial buildings, Bowman’s Hill Tower, Revolutionary War soldiers’ graves, stone memorials, picnic pavilions and historic collections.

The Visitor Center is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guided tours of the Historic Village are 10 AM - 4 PM.

Single site admission is $6 and combo tickets are $11. Tickets may be purchased at any of the three locations.

The recreational areas of the Park are open for use from dawn to dusk all year, weather permitting.

Tours and programs are sponsored by the non-profit Friends of Washington Crossing Park and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

The New Jersey Washington Crossing State Park, not to be confused with with a Pennsylvania park on the other side of the Delaware River, has a nice Historical and Visitor Center with well displayed exhibits. It also is a large park area with several marked Trails for walking and an amphitheater for theatrical presentations. For me the most moving part is the Continental Trail, a chip paved walking trail which may be seen as following the approximate path of the Continental Army on December 25th 1776 as they marched in the cold and driving snow from the river bank to the road leading to Trenton.

Great historical site to visit. The tour of the park is interesting and entertaining. The buildings, monuments and equipment are well maintained. You get the feeling of what it could have been like all those years ago when Gen. Washington was set to cross the Delaware River. A must see when you are in the area.

I've been here twice and very much enjoy the scenery. There are numerous artifacts from the Revolutionary War on display which was neat. You can walk along the very path that Washington's army marched on towards Trenton, and you can cross a footbridge into Pennsylvania and explore the state park in that state. This is definitely a great place for history aficionados and parents with small children.

This is truly one of the great events in the history of our nation. At what is a typical river bank that you can stand at the tide of our fate as a nation was turned in our favor. The park does an excellent job of presenting the event without going overboard. (Pun intended) the small museum has an excellent set of artifacts that is well marked and displayed. They have done a great job of explaining why this document or that artifact is important and how it relates to history in both a small and larger sense.

It's a beautiful park and really well kept. A lot of great history for this great country happened right around this area, it's very special to walk on the same ground as so many great men had many years ago as they fought for the freedom we have today. Besides this beautiful park there are also so many more great walks nearby with the Delaware river so close. Also there are great towns on the river less that a 10 minute drive away with plenty of great restaurants and shops to satisfy everyone's needs
