Waterloo State Recreation Area

Horse N' Around Wonderful place. This was my first time ever riding a horse so I was a bit tense but this was an activity that my wife picked out. If you've never been here, I suggest you go. The people were friendly and gave you all the tips you need to ride successfully. The horses are very responsive and usually stay in line because they are a herd animal ( they follow each other ). But again, go here if you can.

I really enjoy visiting the Waterloo State Recreation Area. I frequently fish on several lakes in the area. I also have visited Sugarloaf Lake and the State Campground numerous times. I prefer to do my camping during the weekdays and avoid the congestion of the weekends. The campground has always been well maintained and the staff is always friendly and helpful.

Great park. Headquarters was super friendly and helpful. Really great place for small loop hikes. I would personally park and start at the discovery center. Nothing more than 5 miles unless you continue on the Waterloo-Pinckney Trail. Very nice trail by the way.

Rented a small cabin on Portage Lake for the weekend. The view was great and the cabin was warm. No indoor bathroom but had a clean outhouse right out back. Modern living it was not but it was cozy and just what I was looking for. It could have been a little cleaner but it was nothing a few sanitary wipes and 10 minutes couldn't fix. Great place to get away to and I'm already looking forward to going back!

Great place to take your horses trail riding. Cabins available for rent look just adorable. Great day trip :)
