One of the few places still around with exibits together with the history. Not only showing the fort, but detailing the history, how it was back then, how it came into being, etc.
Definitely an interesting experience with the kids. This fort is one of the restores and neatest forts in Pretoria. Has great history, displays and lots of information to share with the visitors. Has an old ammunition room with wide variety of guns on display from Lee Anfield, Mauser, Martini & Henry and various bullets. Huge Canons outside Creusot Canon 150mm and 2 x 37mm. Also a 37mm Maxim Norden veldt Canon. Displays for the kitchen with glass and utensils from the time and even uniforms. There is even an old tramshed and steam engine on display. To out surprise their is even a braai area where you can picnic. Unfortunately no restaurant or shop on site, so make sure to pack water and everything you need. There are public toilets. Everything is outdoors so wear comfortable shoes and hats and don't forget sunblock. It was reactively affordable to go inside R25 per adult and less than that per kid. Open weekends 9am to 5pm. Not sure about weekdays.
It is a small museum with a huge history. Entrance fees are not much, and they have no card facilities. I loved the memorial of our boys that died on our borders.
Visited this great Beacon In Tshwane and even though the museum was closed it was still a great overview of Tshwane and greater. Surrounding area is an nature reserve and definitely a visitVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Pulled up to the gate ten minutes after it should have been open, but it was very much closed with no sign of life anywhere. I had to apologize to my driver and reroute to a different destination. No indication on the website as to why this place was closed today, but I see that they only accept cash, so I wouldn’t have been able to get in anyway. Other places don’t even take cash anymore.
Randomly visited this monument/monument. Very affordable to visit, only R25, normal fee with special fee for students and pensioners. The Fort is well looked after, in great condition and one hell of a view over Pretoria/Centurion.
Use the Waterkloof past the Waterkloof Golf Course and Militarily Training Facility entrance. Other one is permanently closed. Only cash accepted at entrance. R25 Adults Scolars R7 Students R12
What an awesome trip back in time. Good preservation and setup. Also the best view in Gauteng
Fort Klapperkop was the third fort erected before the outbreak of the Anglo-Boer War 1899–1902 to protect Pretoria. It has been restored with historical accuracy and arranged as a museum, with permanent exhibitions of Anglo-Boer War objects and furniture. The fort has the following rooms: Ammunitie, Hospitaal, Keuken, Machine, Telegraaf, Stal and Manschappen.
Hidden place of history. Good to know whats behind this historical building. Beautiful view from the top.
