Had a lovely walk around the monument. Grounds are kept clean and tidy. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. Found the museum fascinating, the art work, the tapestries and the artifacts just amazing.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Beautiful historical place to visit, a toponim in Pretoria. Views from the top of the monument are spectacular. There is also a gallery inside. It takes some time to go through the entire building but is worth it. It is also surrounded by beautiful gardens with animal sculptures. There is a gift shop that is not crazy with prices. Plenty of parking even on public holiday. There was a market of antiquities nearby on the day I went, but not sure if it's a regular thing.
It is a bit costly to visit, but it is all for a good cause. What a beautiful sighting. I can not explain the feeling I had while visiting.Wait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
A true gem - must visit. So much to be proud of; well maintained beautiful gardens. Excellent for the kids. Lots to see and do.Visited onWeekend
As a non South African this museum offers an incredible insight into the history and majesty of the land and people of South Africa. Race issues aside these are stout religious people that created a vision out of some of the hardest country in the world. Impressive to say the least and grand that it is still being looked after now.
What a treasure. It has been a really long time since I visited this monument. A well maintained and magnificent granite structure containing impressive marble friezes and a detailed history of the journey undertaken by those brave souls who left the Cape Colony between 1835 and 1854. Climb to the top of the dome and look down on on the cenotaph, step outside and enjoy the views. Then go all the way downstairs to appreciate the beautiful tapestries and the new addition to the monument with unique artifacts and displays to make the Battle of Blood River come to life. We were treated to a personal tour by one of the guides and were thankful for his knowledge, patience and passion for his subject matter. After the tour we stopped in at the gift shop to purchase some unique gifts and enjoyed a delicious roosterbrood and coffee in the cafe. The monument is conveniently located just outside Pretoria with ample parking and clean restroom facilities. Take time to explore the indigenous gardens, cultural area and fort. Well worth your time to visit!
Lots happening, it is great to see the development of the museums. The gardens and hiking trails are very well kept. Fun holiday program for the kids. Fantastic horse trails. You can easily spend an entire morning or afternoon if you plan and book ahead of time.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
This is one of the most impressive sights I have seen so far on my trip to Gauteng. It is a big squared building telling the story of the Boers who came from the Cape province inland. On their great Trekk. From negociations and fightings with local tribes and the final set up of a new life. The entrance hall tells on their walls the basic story while in the basement is a bit more detailed exhibition. The Cenotaph in the centre says ‚We‘re for you, South Africa‘. Going up the stairs offers a nice view onto Pretoria from the balcony and one level higher you get a view onto the entrance hall from the coppula. The stairs are not super high. It is worth going up. Highly recommend to see.
Beautiful place, nice scenery down from the top. A good shop, too. Restaurant full, but we had a picnic.
Nice visit, lots to do and learn, interactive experience for the whole family, spend the day@ "die monument".
