Went to open wine during the day for a wine tasting. We got there at 12:30 in the afternoon prepared to have a bottle of wine and enjoy our afternoon. We were then told that Friday's at 6pm they did a free wine tasting. So we decided to enjoy the rest of town and come back later for the free wine tasting. We arrived at 6pm and began our tasting, which was never mentioned as a paid tasting. When we were ready to leave we were served with a bill of R500 bill for our tasting which was made to seem free. Very disappointing as the lady who originally told us it was free denied it when we got the bill. The wines served in the 4 wine tasting was definitely not worth R250 pp.
what a lovely vibe especially the live band playing over a glass of wine the pizza was tasty enjoyed our merlot red wine ambiance was great it is wheelchair accesible in the entrance and a bit of the inside but wheelchair user cant access toilet or sit were the chairs are.does get packed as its small arrive early..leave before the crowd come
Friendly staff with a sense of humour and well informed about the wines they are selling. The kitchen may be small but those ladies throw out BIG flavour! Had the lamb ravioli...my heart was content. Simple delicious flavours. The wine is pretty good too and they have instore specials so go over and see what you can get. Toilet is clean and I didnt have to put my bag on the floor albeit it was pretty clean. Great for after work drinks. Space inside and outside.
Non existent service. Walked in for a bottle of wine, waited and waited for service, tried to find someone, no one wants to acknowledge you. I also saw a plate of pasta being sent back my a customer, it looked like a right mess on the plate, a bland pasta with peas. Ended up going to Culture wine bar around the corner. They are were very busy but received excellent service. I've left 2 stats for the review because Openwine does have a good selection of wines
Cool vibe. Great selection of wines.
Wine choice is great, wine temperature may vary from one bottle to the other, food is at best feeding, furniture is ageing. Nonetheless the staff is friendly and welcoming
Americans should pay cash or avoid. Went here while on vacation and had an incredible meal here with excellent service. We left satisfied and likely would have returned later in our stay. The next evening we received a phone call from the front desk of our hotel saying there was an issue with our bill at openwine and there were gentleman from the bar to speak to us in the lobby. We have no idea how they found us at the hotel although it is only a few doors away. We did not meet this person in the lobby and spoke over the phone. There was a request for us to come and pay again at the restaurant because it did not go through. They would walk with us a few blocks to the business. After verifying with the credit card company I was told there was no problem with the charge and it would go through after the holiday as it was a bank holiday in the us. We refused to walk to the restaurant and Openwine requested email addresses so they could send another bill electronically. Additionally I had LinkedIn requests from both the owner and an employee from openwine from them using my name on the credit card. Ultimately given the anxiety this was causing us my wife and I decided we would just pay the bill again via email link and if there was an issue we would sort it out with the credit card company upon our return-700 Rand was a small price to pay for what we perceived to be our safety and piece of mind. No surprise the charge ended up going through twice. To openwines credit they did refund us in cash dropped off at the hotel so this may have been nothing more then an honest mistake, however it more or less made us feel like we were being watched while in the city which is not a great feeling while abroad. If desiring payment immediately which is understandable you should only accept cash.
This is a great place with one of the best wine selections in Caoe Town. Knowledgeable and very friendly staff, and great food too! Must visit when in Cape Town if you love wine, obviously <3
Absolutely incredible musicians, great ambiance , good wine
I didn't really spend much time here, so I can't really vouch for any sort of experience. However, the concept is phenomenal. And they sell Pizza, baked in a stone pizza oven. Pizza is always a win.
