Description

True Italic-Osteria del Capo introduces CapeTown to the soulful cuisine and convivial spirit of the Italian authentic food.

The a A la Carte Menu which changes on a daily base according on what is fresh and focusing on what is seasonal, ranges from Luca’s handmade pasta’s ( Pappardelle, Tagliolini, Tagliatelle, PotatoGnocchi, Ricotta Gnocchi, Lasagne, Ravioli, to name a few), to creamy Burrata Mozzarella, Melanzana Parmigiana, all the way to sizzling Beef Sirloins Tagliata-style on a bed of Rocket and topped with coarse Salt and Balsamic Vinegar. Guests are encouraged to begin their meal with a variety of Affettati (SLICED CURED Meats imported from Italy) and fresh Cheeses handcrafted fresh every day from our Italian cheesemaker (Mozzarella Fiordilatte, Scamorza, Ricotta, Gorgonzola, Grana Padano) accompanied with homemade Focaccia. This is perfect to share.

At True Italic it is all about quality, fresh ingredients, simplicity and an emphasis on freshness, tradition and authenticity. Our vision is simply to combine art, music and exceptional food in a perfect stimulating symphony.

We also do customized private or business dinners containing fish, meat or vegetarian dishes. Let us know which your preferences and we will organize our space to give the look and feel you want to the night.

We were part of a group of friends celebrating a birthday. This was my first visit to the venue and I wasn't expecting to end up in a basement. It was cold out and colder inside the basement. The basement wasn't secure and there was a door which opened out on an adjacent street. Freaky! The staff disappeared in and out the door on occasion. The starter was good but I was underwhelmed by the gnocchi and ragu main dishes which we had to share on side plates. We were expected to use the same side plates for starter and mains. This was casual dining but very pricey. Our drinks bill was R700 for 3 drinks each. Not sure if this is a good average for a casual dining venue.
Talk about Authentic Great Italian cuisine run by 2 brothers who actually are Italian, you can hear them as they converse and check on tables. Greeted warmly as we enter , the smell of joy and laughter filled the air... the place was fully booked, we were lucky to get the only table left for 2. This restaurant has been been simply designed with an Italian touch of simplicity and authenticity. They have great Italian wines on the wine menu, starter portions are large and VERY GENEROUS , they make there own pasta, the taste of home made pasta is unbelievable, give that Chef a bells lovely through and through - to bad no space for desert. Make sure you book a table. Relax and enjoy, we read some reviews online and it was voted as one of the best places to go to in Cape Town for dinner.
True Italian meals, with cozy atmosphere, interesting layout with plenty examples of original building structure. Good food flavours. Coffee also great. They have a downstairs room for private functions too. Street parking in lower part of Bree Street. Staff asked for tip in cash rather than include in bill...
This restaurant has been around for 6 years and I heard about it for the first time just two days ago! I think I must have just woken up from a deep sleep because it is hard to believe that I had not heard about it before! After our first visit this evening we are determined to revisit very soon! Luca is an energetic, young restaurateur and chef busy making a great name for himself! He was very friendly and welcoming, ensuring that our special evening was an absolute delight. Outstanding flavours and reasonably priced for such good quality. Highly recommended!
Love pasta? Then you'll love True Italic! It's got a classic old school Italian restaurant feel, great place for a date night. The food was great, the pasta is not as Al dente as what you'll find in Italy, but I preferred it actually. My wife had a Penne with mushrooms not sure the name of the dish and I preferred her food over my Gnocchi Ragu
This spot has always been high on my list for Italian food. The different sauces that are excellently paired with a particular kind of homemade pasta is always an enjoyable experience and keeps you coming back to try something new. This particular time we were a bit disappointed with the options and the artichoke starter was a bit dry and bland. While you go there for pasta, in the past they had a few other pasta free options for those wanting to join but with specific dietary requirements, that no longer seem to be added to the menu. I also thought the plating was a bit uninspired since our last visit. Atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff and good wine are all other positive points that will keep me coming back and hopefully the next time the menu will be more in line with my taste palate
Simple, rustic decor, great home style food and excellent service. Unpretentious, relaxed atmosphere with decent prices. Very easy to become a regular at this place
Interesting and rustic restaurant situated in the quieter side of Bree street. Lovely authentic ambiance within the restaurant as well. Friendly staff too. However, the food is extremely overpriced for the small portions that are served especially for locals. Paying R155 for a small portion of tagliatelle pasta with mushrooms - which was very dry and rather bland. I had to ask for additional chilly, which helped slightly. Interesting to try out, but I unfortunately won't be returning again.
What a hidden gem, although it looks small from outside, there is a hidden basement stored underneath. True Italian style and the Pasta with muscles was absolutely mouth watering.
5 star food quality, flavor and presentation. Interesting venue and decor. Problem.. Portions are ridiculously small which drops the restaurant to a 4 star. I get why they offer the small portions - they’re trying to get you to buy a 3 course meal, its financial metrics and they’re trying to make money, starter main and desert, but sometimes you just want a hearty big bowl of true Italian pasta and at True Italic, you cant get that. So, 4 stars for what could and should be an all-star 5 experience.
