Reviews
Surprised to see such bad reviews here so wanted to pop in and say that my experience with ACE was good. I booked economy class car and they upgraded me to the medium class when I got there. The employee was friendly. Will use ACE again if I need to in the future.

I don't leave reviews very often. But I need to let everyone know ACE is sketchy AF. I had a few really weird incidents with them while I was scheduling Thanksgiving travel.
On 10/16 I made the reservation through Priceline and felt super relieved to have some affordable Thanksgiving travel booked.
On 10/26 they called me to say I shouldn't have been able to reserve with them and that they had no car rental availability at their E 33rd Street location. I was confused and asked them if I could pick up the car somewhere else and they told me I'd have to go to Newark if I wanted to keep my initial rate. I agreed (because I needed to get home for Thanksgiving somehow) and they said they'd send me a confirmation.
On 10/28 they still hadn't sent me a confirmation, so I called ACE to confirm. They said I could still pick up at E 33rd Street.
I felt weird about this, because I was told I needed to pick up in Newark, so on 10/30 I called the E 33rd Street location directly. They said 1.) The car would require a $2500 deposit and 2.) I'd have to pick up in Newark and 3.) They couldn't send me a confirmation because only the manager could do that, and he would need to call me back around 12p that day.
No one ever called me back.
I feel way too uncomfortable to continue with this company, especially after seeing the other reviews here. A $2500 deposit? No confirmation? Changing pick up locations? I just couldn't see this ending well. They are SO incredibly sketchy. I just canceled my reservation with them.

The worst! I booked a car and then received a call a week later telling me they are cancelling due to no availability. Now every other rental agency's price has shot up because we're a week closer to Thanksgiving. Stay away if you want to actually rent a car.

The car was hit. I mean, the staff was nice, though they refused to alter the pickup time by even a half hour, insisting that such changed must be made through travelocity where I booked. Seriously? Half an hour?
Anyway, the car itself was a few years ols, dented and scratched all over, and even missing a chunk of the body by one headlight. I don't care, really, because I wasn't trying to impress anyone, and it's not like they tried to charge me for the pre-existing damage, they were very good about that. But as soon as I was out of the city the check engine light and the balance lights came on. The car just wasn't in good shape, which is something I have really come to expect from rentals.
That said, the staff was very helpful, very nice to me, and even gave me a discount (though small) for the hassle.
Five stars for service, 3 for the car itself, which really does matter.
