Atlanta Airport

I rode MARTA on a recent visit to Atlanta. I was a little nervous about taking the public transportation from the airport to my hotel, but I felt very safe the entire way. I always enjoy riding public transportation in new cities because I see more than when I take a taxi. The people who worked for MARTA at the airport were very nice and helped me, a newbie, very much. They showed me where to get off to get to my hotel. That is such a comfort when you don't know where you are going! At least for me, the train station was very close to my hotel so it was incredibly convenient and lots less expensive than taking a cab or uber.

This review is for the station and my experience during the train ride. The MARTA is very easy to navigate and understand! Decently clean for a subway system, and the fares are very reasonable. The train ride was really comfortable, and it was really smooth. Although there was a 15 minute delay during my ride, it was still a pleasant experience!

Unfortunately the security lines and check in areas are poorly laid out juggernauts. Expect to wait and to be shouted at by surly employees. It is sad this is the first glimpse of the USA so many people experience. The remodeling is going along on the cheap and the new tiles are chipping and the low budget carpet squares scream budget cuts. The terminals are crowded and dirty. Plusses: there is a mass transit station in the airport. The underground walk way between terminals is not overly crowded and you can walk in an area of calm.

A subway that takes you directly from the airport terminals to downtown, without having to change trains or change buses, that’s really a great convenience of ATL airport. The train runs all the way until midnight, so that’s very convenience too for late night arriving travelers. The breeze card is our subway card. There are options to buy trips or add money to the card. I would suggest buying trips if you don’t want any leftover balance in the card.
