Overall a very pleasant experience! We reserved the car prior to our arrival in New York from Germany. Everything went well! The Gentleman at the front desk was more than helpful, explaining toll fees and other things. He even offered some water! Car arrived clean and with a full tank, all of our documents were valid and so everything worked out perfectly
I would give this location 0 stars if possible. I reserved a "Premium" car. However, upon arriving to collect the car, I was offered a choice between two cars that had no fuel and did not meet Avis’s definition of a “Premium” car per their own website. Avis’s Terms & Conditions clearly state that most rentals come with a full tank of fuel. However, the vehicles I was offered both had empty tanks, contrary to their own policy. I was told the location does not have a pump on site to refill the cars prior to the next reservation. This necessitated an immediate visit to a nearby gas station, 20 blocks away, resulting in an unexpected expense of $81.75 to fill the tank at a location known for price gouging. Such a practice not only inconveniences customers but also violates their reasonable expectations of receiving a car in good working condition. Furthermore, it constitutes a violation of Avis’s own fuel policy, which does not exempt cases where a refueling station is unavailable. I asked for a fuel policy and was told it does not apply because the tank was on empty. The rental was one way with the return location more than 75 miles away. I was also not credited for returning the car with 3/4 tank of gas. Avis has not apologized or offered to reimburse me. I am left no other option but seek further action.
1.5 hours to pick up a car on a Saturday morning. They overbook then have to drive vehicles in from JFK and LGA while customers wait. Staff are friendly despite having to work in these very challenging conditions.
We had a horrible experience today at this location. Upon arrival, I was told that the car we rented and prepaid was not available because we didn’t come exactly at 8:30 when our reservation started. Avis T&C’s clearly state that cars are available for the first 24 hours of your reservation. From there I was told I would need to pay a further $35 a day for the next level of car. In addition, I was not allowed to use my company’s leisure AWD without presenting my employee ID. That would be fine if it was flagged anywhere on the website or during the rental booking process, but I wasn’t told until I was physically at the desk. I live in Ireland so there was really no chance of me easily procuring my ID. I offered other options to verify where I work and was denied. All of this could have been frustrating but manageable, except for the fact that the woman we dealt with was hostile from the first moment we walked in. Her tone was aggressive and it was if she wanted to make the process as difficult as she could. We canceled the reservation and went to Hertz. I will note that Avis phone customer service was extremely helpful in canceling my res and providing me a full refund. Avoid this location.
The car was beautiful but when I got in it. It had a weird smell. Like someone was smoking cigarettes and they tried to clean it up the best that they could. However, the smell still longered. In the middle of my ride I’m using the GPS. The screen goes black later on blue. I tried to call road side assistance they tell me to return the car to the nearest Avis for an exchange. I had already had reservations. I didn’t have time. So I just dealt with the screen not working. At the end of the ride they add on hidden fees. Personally, I would just like to know the whole bill with all the fees entirely in order to budget better. Unfortunately, I will not be renting with this company again due to the huge inconvenience of the screen and hidden fees.
Our vehicle had some serious issues. There are chunks of rubber cut out of the sidewalls on both passenger tires. Engine check light is on. Vehicle has obviously been smoked in. The interior was really dirty. Gross. For only having 15,000 miles on it, it looks like it has 100,000 miles. This was a Grand Wagoneer. Update: 12-18-2023. I received a letter in the mail from Avis saying they are going to charge me $450 because the vehicle was smoked in. We do not smoke…
Unprofessional, unkind and unhelpful. There is one called Kim who is exceptionally rude and I see that I’m not the only one who has had a negative interaction. There was a second woman who claimed to be the supervisor. The two women actually started watching a show on their phone while I was still in front of them seeking help. They are paid for this? Shocking! These two women had the audacity to ask me why I rented somewhere else and returning to that location. Extremely disrespectful to me the client but also to themselves. Please avoid this place.
After waiting in line for about 45 minutes, everyone was told that they ran out of cars. If you want to keep your reservation, you will have your wait until a new batch gets delivered. If you prepaid, they would not refund your payment, but you could call customer service and ask them for a refund.
I have been a loyal customer of this Avis location for years without any issues. However, I was recently charged a staggering $450 for a "required cleaning service" due to a few pieces of animal hair. This fee is outrageous and feels like a blatant rip-off. It's disappointing to see Avis resort to these kinds of tactics. Avoid this location if you don't want to be hit with unfair and exorbitant fees.
Slowest service ever. Update: a few weeks after - again line outside the door with 2 super slow agent at the front
