My husband spent his last 9+ months at Berkshire Place in Providence RI on the Dementia/Alzheimer's floor. I have been consistently impressed with the care and professionalism of the nurses and nursing assistants. To a person, they are attentive to patients, responsive to my questions, warm, humorous, solicitous, endlessly patient, and often creative in problem solving.
The unit is always clean and the residents seem well settled. There are live music programs several times a month, as well as regular pet-therapy visits and daily exercises and craft programs. What initially impressed me was the variety of residents. Men & women seemed in equal number. They are from all walks of life and have different levels of disability. It is Interesting to be among them. I think it was interesting to my husband, while he was aware. That was a big plus when I was looking at different nursing homes.
This week, I went back to collect a few of my husband's things and to hug and thank the staff for being so wonderful to him, me and all the residents and families. I recommend Berkshire Place to anyone who has the heart-breaking task of placing a loved person with Alzheimer's in the care of others.

My sister has advanced Dementia/Alzheimer’s. She was at Butler being evaluated to see what medication she would need. Time came for her to be placed into a permanent nursing home. Butler, informed me that Brookshires Place on Douglas Avenue had a bed. she was being transferred in the morning. After a quick google search, I was not happy by the ratings 1.2 or something! I did everything possible to get her someplace somewhere else, but I couldn’t. I’m grateful now. I don’t know what these ratings are all about. Because the place is immaculate, and she get excellent care. That is not an easy task for people with Dementia/Alzheimer’s who don’t know where the bathroom is or even the toilet, When it’s right in front of them. She can be very combative, I was amazed how they disarmed her fiery anger and left her laughing.. I was amazed! I am so well please at the level of care that she receives there.

Berkshire tried to evict me for drugs now I already am by prescription on the highest pain Med out there and they tried to make me leave because they found codine in my urine ( so they say ) and the lab paper also said
BUT. BEWARE. WHEN YOU HAVE A TOX SCREEN THEY ARE TO FOLLW A COLLECTION PROCEDURE. “IN FRONT OF YOU “. You piss they seal. You sign the seal I give u this information because I appealed this eviction and I was more concerned with the accusations of the drugs I have always been against and even my mother knew that drugs were not my thing “I WON THE APPEAL” But that was not the real problem because I wasn’t the drug problem that problem was between some of the RESIDENTS and also STAFF and I knew a lot about what was happening but Administrators wanted to get rid of me not ask for my help in getting rid of the real problem instead while I was trying to gain intel on what and who so I could bring them solid information they lock me on a psych unit that I could come and go as I wanted I knew the door code but I had to go wen the staff weren’t watching I don’t know why they would not let me down when they New I wasn’t doing anything wrong I guess nobody said anything to me anyway sometimes I think they just want control

Despite this hospital being a nice place, there's germs everywhere in the building
