I was told By the staff at the Bonita shelter that I was too old to adopt. I'm 73. They were incredibly rude to me. I also didn't like the way the animals are neglected. Injured animals don't get the treatment they need. Nor, are they bathed & groomed. Dental care is nonexistent. Abcessed teeth are very painful, making it near impossible to eat. Cherry eye is extremely painful & cheap and easy to treat. The folks at the Carlsbad shelter couldn't have been nicer.

Very rude and condescending staff. They all seem to be constantly bothered about something. Gave me a LOT of attitude after letting me adopt a dog that STILL had worms, without letting me know. Naturally I called and asked if it was normal, they said to bring him in for treatment. So I did and even when I showed up they denied that they even told me to come in and get the free treatment. I already left this review on Facebook back when I adopted my dogs. (I adopted two only one had worms) but I didn’t get any kind of response or feedback. So, they truly don’t really care about anyone’s concerns. I’d love to adopt another pet but it won’t be from here.

They made it difficult for me to claim my own dog just because she was brought in due to my brother being detained, she was with him at the time for a walk. I tried to claim her immediately and my paperwork, photos and declarations by myself and children were not enough. I was asked to return with paperwork from the jail that did not exist and was given the run around when I did return and had done what they had requested. I finally had her returned to me, 10 days later and of course I was charged for each day of boarding. The place was clean and the animals did look like they were well cared for.

My dog died tonight. A beautiful German Shepard was very ill for a very short time. I could see she was in pain, gums were white in color, very fast respiration. A short time later she had a seizure my daughter was doing CPR. I called 911 they refused to come out because they only treated people. No information was given to me on how to save my dog or who to call. I have seen my dogs sprayed with toxic substances several times but couldn't identify the person since I was inside my house and there was a distance and trees making the person unrecognizable. I was told that an officer would come out tomorrow. Nothing has been done to help find the cause of death. I'm on low income and can't afford to pay for an autopsy neither will the humane society. If they really cared something more positive would be taking place instead of ignoring my poor deceased German Shepard. Whom I was told over and over 10 years is old for my girl "Nadia" who was never sick a day in her life!!!! Dead and no one cares.

This is an okay shelter. I like to choose pets by their personalities, but it is set up to have you choose them by look. Then they go through the computer to tell you about each one. If they posted all of the information it would save a lot of time in the end. We did find a woman that was very helpful in the end. I wish I could remember her name.
