I've eaten here 3 times and I've enjoyed it each time. Come ready to drink some Bavarian beers! They have a long list of brews you won't find anywhere else in Berkeley. There isn't much in the way of descriptions of each beer, but the servers are knowledgeable.
Last time I came, I had the gulash. It was good, and kept well for leftovers, but the beef was a little dryer than I had anticipated.
The decor is funky, and definitely German. There is a small marketplace for German goods like bottled beer.
I always have fun here, so I will be back.

Best schnitzel I've ever eaten. Tender, crispy and delicious. I grew up with a mom of German descent and almost never like German restaurants. But I have dreams about their schnitzel and buttery mashed potatoes. Great wine and beer selection as well. Service can be a little slow but friendly and helpful when choosing wine or beer to pair with your meal.

Gaumenkitzel is one of my favorite places to go. The staff is amazing! The food is even better. But, the best thing about this place, for me anyway, is the beer. I haven't had anything bad yet. I only wish they carried some poultry dishes.

Excellent example of German cuisine. I have gone here multiple times and have yet to have a bad meal. The staff is very attentive, the beer is affordable, and the food was amazing. I had the mulled wine which I have had in the past at different restaurants but they had a unique taste that was a good twist on the normal way of preparing it. Jagerschnitzel is a must have with the mashed potatoes and the bread is just simple and delicious.

Great German comfort food with some really amazing specials. Had some pork ribs and bacon stew with rutabaga today that was really well balanced and delicious. However the bread is something truly special, and as a side dish for $1 you can’t go wrong. And there is of course there great selection of beers.
