A great place for small special events. Had a surprise party here, the staff was so wonderfully accommodating for a group of 20 with a few extra people coming in, which was extremely generous of them. No issues with splitting checks, cutting a cake we brought in, and everyone was properly fed and drunk, everything a party organizer hopes and dreams for. Potato cakes are not to be missed, best I've had in the States. Birthday boy was German and was very happy with the food, so have been back since and, while it gets crowded, staff are always kind and attentive. Can't go wrong here!

This place is so much more than beer in a glass boot. Overall, I'd say Suppenküche is just traditional enough that all the beer and fare is fitting for a German restaurant, without making the distinctly SF crowd seem out of place. The food is simple, thoughtfully made, and delicious. Beer selection is substantial and very German, so don't expect a California IPA or anything of that sort. The restaurant is often busy, so I wouldn't expect a quiet meal. The server's, however, do a great job of keeping up.

Excellent German beers. You have a decent selection of tapped beers. They also have seasonal rotations and various bottled beers you can try. You can order from a 0.2L to a 5L "glass" of beer. They have various glasses for different beer styles to bring out the aroma and flavor. Bartenders know their craft, talk to them about what you like and they'll make great recommendations. The place gets really packed and loud on weekends nights when everyone is out. Be prepared to yell, loudly.

Simply one of the best German food restaurants in the US - with a California emphasis on fresh and organic ingredients. For 25 years the quality has been outstanding. Items on the menu have changed but the classics remain. Even a simple dish such as potato pancakes with sour cream and apple sauce is culinary heaven. On the weekend arrive right when it opens or be prepared to wait outside for a table.

The food and beer are amazing. Portions are very filling, the soup alone was a meal. Make sure you check out the specials to. I leave here feeling very very happy and contented.
