The ski trail head at Nordic is a great place in the summer to hike. The trails are well marked and the outer blue loop is 9 miles long with lots of inner trails for shorter hikes. They are wide enough to keep you out of weeds or tall grass no matter what time of year you go.

Well maintained and well travelled trail system. Outer loop maxes out at around 9 miles. Multiple shorter inner loops. Some flat sections through pine forests and open meadows but mostly hilly. Very well marked. Various trail types: typical hard packed dirt through flat forest sections, rocky hills, grassy meadows. Grassy sections are mowed regularly. Ok for running but care needed on hills due to erosion and rocks. Quiet during the week. Can be crowded on certain weekends (spring and fall). Lots of families and dog walkers. Stick to the outer loop for solitude. That trail is rarely crowded even on the busiest days. Large parking lot. Can be uncomfortably crowded on certain weekends. This is due to the insanely crowded bike trails across the street. The bike lot will fill and overflow into the hiking lot. Fee area. Purchase an annual State Park sticker or pay a daily use fee ($8). Entrance station is usually un-staffed. Water, picnic tables, shelter, and bathrooms (long overdue for renovation).

Heavily used Nordic and hiking trail... no hiking allowed when there is sufficient snow to XC ski. I have found this to be a great trail for running, given the ups and downs of the ridges and kettles. This trail is usually quite busy on weekends, while during the week you can sometimes have this trail all to yourself. If you want to avoid most skiers and hikers, stick to the 9-mile long Blue trail.

Nice wide hilly wooded trails in the beautiful Kettle Moraine State Forest.

Awesome skate skiing destination when the snow's good. Unfortunately, also crowded.
