This is a really great place! The day we visited, the winds topped 40+ mph, but we still immensely enjoyed ourselves! It's right on the river, of course, and the views are fabulous from up top, as well as from the river's edge! You may get lucky enough to see some HUGE BOATS go by! The history of the fort is very interesting and the interactive interpretative program (don't miss it!) was lots of fun. The cannons are fired several times a day, too. It's a great place for kids, as there is plenty of room for them to run around and be kids, although you would need to keep a close eye on them since there are so many nooks and crannies and they could be out of sight in a heartbeat. I've toured a lot of forts along the GA coast and I think this one was my favorite. Note: there are restrooms inside the little cabin where you enter, as well as in the corner to the right of the fort entrance.

Had a good time there. The tour guide did a great job explaining the history of the fort and was extremely respectful of the past. You could tell he really enjoyed what he did. They fired of a small cannon which my kids loved.

Fort Pulaski and Fort McAllister are both nearby and both offer a more interesting visiting experience. The only draw here is the cannon firing, which we missed. (We were told they were going to fire it at 4:30, but we heard it go off at 5:17...when we rushed over to see if they were going to fire again, the staff was not apologetic and just told us that we should always be early!). In all it was not a bad experience, but not worth a second visit. On contrast, we’ve been to Fort Pulaski at least 10 times and always find it interesting!

Love Old Fort Jackson. Kids do too. Think it gets missed a lot, over people going to see Fort Pulaski. Definitely should go visit this place and check it out.

The cannon firing was by far the best part, but we also enjoyed hearing some of the history of the fort. We spent about an hour there and didn't quite see everything. Not the best place to visit with very young kids as it's hot and muggy and there's not much for them to interact with, but we still enjoyed it
