My family and I adopted a kitten in September of last year. She was 3 months old at the time. She seemed healthy and we were reassured she was in GREAT health. After the adoption we started noticing our kitten was becoming sick with cold like symptoms. I of course knew this could be stress from the chnage of environment or maybe just a typical cat "cold". Her sickness progressed and worsen. She was lethargic and would barely eat. She had runny nose and had trouble breathing. Her ears were draining a liquid like substance that I kept maintaining and cleaning because she could not do it herself. I took her to the vet and they found that she had more than just a "cold". Both her ears showed signs of Nasopharyngeal Polyps. Symptoms of this are : upper respiratory distress, sneezing, snot and ear infections. The vet told me that she could only see the 2 (1 in each each ear), but would not be able to see if these polyps were present in the nasal cavity unless they SURGICALLY removed the current polyps and looked in her nasal cavity. Our cat was treated with a 14 day antibiotic which would kill any bacteria or fungus that may have brewed in her ears causing her upper respiratory distress and her ear goo discharge, but will NOT cure the polyps. These would need to be, and I say this again SURGICALLY removed. Our kitten is still having breathing problems. Her breathing is labored she snores very loudly and can hardly "meow" . She is not currently showing signs of an infection since she was last treated for the infection, but this could occur again unless surgery is performed to remove the polyps. The point I'm trying to make here is this: When anyone adopt an animal from the SPCA (anywhere) these animals are supposed to be treated and cared for prior to adoption. I know that once we adopt an animal we as OWNERS are responsible for health related issues after the adoption, but this certain situation could have been AVOIDED! I doubt these "vets" checked the kitten in anyway to see if she had these growths in her ears. The vet informed me that these polyps had to have been present during her stay at this SPCA facility. I just want everyone who adopts from here to realize the issue we had while adopting the animal from one of these SPCA facilities. The staff,(vets in all) need to be more aware of the animals health issues and disclose anything that could be life threatening to those who are adopting these animals.

This organization took over the lancaster location which is the one I am reviewing. I called because a neighbor committed suicide leaving two cats outside in the cold. I called and was informed that I would have to take them the cats and pay a 50 dollar surrender fee. Shame on you. So all who read this beware of what your hard earned donations are actually being used for.

Feel you blew a good chance to give a dog a great home. We know our dogs. Mellow is scared on a leash but would have adjusted and she was just scared. Seemed to be that they did not care to give us a chance
