Unreliable and as dishonest as they come. I switched to RCN after hearing from others they're better than Verizon and Comcast. After being a customer of all three over the past several years I'd say RCN is hands down the worst of the bunch.
I signed up during a free installation and one month free trial promotion. They still tried to bill me for installation. And I never got that 1 month free. In less than a month I received a bill I HAD to pay.
I get spotty service that randomly cuts out and now it seems I'm only getting about half the download speed I'm paying for. I intend to keep testing this over the next week to get a more precise average speed.
They seem more interested in taking me for a ride than delivering a quality service.

All sorts of terrible, don't waste your time or money, Boston!
-the service is horrible and constantly shuts off (I rent/lease their router and they have allegedly check ked the lines. I doubt that's true.)
-they do NOT process and credit payments accurately (I have bank proof of payments for EVERY month, yet they claim I'm 3-months behind and keep charging fees.)
-they will not allow me to officially close my account, therefore it'll continually incur their ludicrous fees ($9 several times, $35 "reconnect" fee which I do NOT want "reconnected", random$44)
-I've filed official complaints against this company. I'm IRATE that they may cause a mark on my flawless credit due to shady business practices. (They CLAIM that I owe over $300, I do NOT.)
-Neighbors in my building have Verizon FIOS and they have NO problems. I'm switching to them.
***STAY FAR AWAY FROM RCN***

This is the worse cable/internet company. After 1yr the bill increases without your knowledge! When you call for tech support, even the Floor Supervisor for Tech/Billing is reading from the same troubleshoot manuals I’ve been able to access. Then they want to send a tech out to my home and I will get a bill for that as well. I’m even telling her what I need to fix the issue and both people I have spoken with this evening are completely clueless! We are facing the worst snow storm, School, work, and state offices are closed but according to the Supervisor “a tech will be at my home between 9am to 12pm. This I have to see 😡🤬

I've been a RCN customer for 3 months. My internet has dropped on a weekly basis. The service representative (s) can never help and tell me that I need a technician - who are booked 5 days out. My issues still have not been resolved. Now I'm stuck paying for a service that doesn't even exist in my home.

Extreeeeeemely slow service inside this local RCN office, to the point where it is seemingly deliberate.
They are only open when most people are working, weekdays only, 9AM-5PM. EXCEPT...Don’t dare try to go pay your bill, or obtain services during lunch break... They CLOSE for lunch hour, 1-2PM!!!
Worse, I once sent a friend to pay for me, my personal info and account # in hand, and the CS woman pretended not to be able to locate my account in the system.
When I went in the following day, she claimed it was a language barrier. As a Jamaican-American, he speaks ENGLISH. Further...HE HAD IT all WRITTEN DOWN. When I gave her THE SAME INFO- VOILA- she miraculously found it! Suddenly, she typed faster than ever and easily took care of me. She proceeded to ask me questions about my family, and upbringing, as she “recognized” my surname. CS value appears to depend greatly on your personal demeanor, and what you will/won’t tolerate. Each person is NOT treated the same.
Paying bills online will cost you an additional $1 fee monthly, and “snail-mailing” payments in cost nearly that in postage. It all adds up over time. The installation last year was haphazard, and I had to personally make adjustments in order to be connected. The installer was too lazy (or busy with others after me) to test and confirm my connection. Once they leave, you will be charged for further tech visits, regardless of it being their fault. Even after contacting upper mgt/corporate, the visit time has a week wait MINIMUM.
The combination of these customer service issues make RCN a HORRIBLE choice. Luckily, their internet speed is usually decent, and monthly rates are currently competitive. Thus, I rate them 2 stars only.
