I picked walk-in site #31, it happened to be the very last site on the path. Very good for privacy and seclusion, which was great because I brought my two dogs. The camp pad is 12x12, which was a bit too small for my 8 person tent. There is a nice picnic table and fire ring with grill. Hiked the 3 mile Deer Run and Deer Creek Loop; the path was narrow, but clearly marked. The bathrooms are nicer than the ones at my gym. You can purchase firewood and ice from the hosts and there are recycle bins on site for those of us that separate our trash. Beware the ticks are out in full-force!

Beautiful state park. 30 amp electric but no water at site. Nice easy in and out at dump site. Swim at own risk but no beach. Water doesn't look inviting to swim but fun to hike around lake. Bath house clean and nice . Pleasantly surprised one washer and dryer which I used to do a quick load of wash. Huge pull thru sites.

Excellent place to camp just 45 minutes north of Kansas City. The car camping area has you packed in there like sardines, but there's a few walking sites that are more to my liking. If you go during the summer the place is going to be packed. Make sure you reserve in advance. Not cheap either. Plan on spending around $100 for two nights of camping and the firewood you're going to have to buy.

Has one lake which is open to fishing and swimming, although the waters are not overly clear, a curse of lakes in Missouri. Lots of camping facilities with electricity available. Picnic areas near lake. Playground area. Hiking trails throughout, one over 3 miles long. Berries in season. Bathroom facilities near lake. Not sure if there are any others. Reservations can be made. Appears to have in-park live-ins (maintenance?) Great place for all sorts of activities, although there doesn't seem to be much in the way of flat ground in the park.

It's beautiful. You're 100% one with nature, on the trails. You're just their guest. Lots of deer, rabbits, birds, the scent of animal scat, deer hoof prints along the trail, flies and knats buzzing in your ear, spider webs all around. It's VERY woodsy on the trails and very narrow and RUGGED/steep in some areas flat in others. Not much in way of a WET watery river. Rather DRY river bed. We walked the trails twice, but the first time around, we ended up with TICKS on our legs. So be aware. Give yourself and your kids a good looking over, once you've finished on the trails. All in all. Simply peaceful and beautiful walk in nature. (Though the park staff DO need to weed wack the DEER RUN trail..as there's a GOOD portion that goes from dirt trail to ankle high weeds).
