This hospital is looking like a lot of effort is going into keeping it running well, and looking good. Overall, not a bad experience…with a few buts… THE GOOD: The entrance is looking great and you can see a lot of effort has gone into making the hospital feel welcoming. The pharmacy is centrally located and convenient note: if you're a Discovery member, there may be a co-pay as this pharmacy doesn't fall under their list of preferred providers. The nurses are friendly and it's obvious they love their job, and are hardworking - we're so grateful for nurses who work so hard, and know they work such long hours…hat off to every man and woman! The hospital has good use of colour and lighting to avoid morbid hospital feels. Pity the plants are mostly fake but the colour makes it feel good : The waiting area's are clean, and comfortable. They've even built in work stations with plug in points to accommodate laptops etc. There is hand sanitizer everywhere. The canteen is well stocked. The nurses clean the beds thoroughly with each new patient - THANK YOU! : THE NOT SO GOOD: General maintenance in the actual wards seems a bit lacking - door handles on the gynae ward toilets were broken - perhaps it happened on the day and they didn't have a chance to fix it as yet. Tidiness of the wards - just didn't seem up to standard comparing to Pta East Netcare. Post op care was a bungle - my daughter went in to get all 4 of her wisdoms removed. They put her in the gynae ward afterward presumably capacity issue. The nurses, although friendly and accommodating, didn't know what post op care was needed and we couldn't find anyone who did. Certain things took particularly long e.g. getting food for my daughter post op. When the food did arrive, they had brought lays chips/crisps … not what you give someone whose just had 4 teeth yanked out. OVERALL: The hardworking staff Cleaners, Nurses, Doctors/Surgeons made the experience good and although there were a few question marks…I would still recommend this hospital.
Thank you to the hard working nurses and doctors whom have shown kindness and professionalism during hard times. No amount of gifts could express how thankful I am towards the doctors and staff that keep this hospital going. I highly recommend this modern, well kept hospital, for they truly have got your back no matter the circumstance.
Had surgery here twice and I wouldn't do it again. For the first surgery I was thankfully discharged after a few hours and I could recover at home. The room was insanely hot and stuffy because the ventilation was not working. Ended up in the same room for the second surgery and I had to stay there for another 2 days. Absolute utter hell. It was excruciatingly hot despite me complaining repeatedly and the nurses reporting it to maintenance. Eventually the cleaners stood on chairs to open the tiny windows at the top just so that the 4 patients inside could get a bit of fresh air. I was constantly in a pool of sweat with the nurses bringing me ice and wet towels. My neighbour and her husband were chain smokers and reeked of cigarettes, so the whole room stank as well because there was no airflow. The night nurse was convinced that it was day time because she would scream and laugh loudly until midnight, and then waltz in at 4h30 to turn all the lights on, because "it's time to get up now". No wonder people don't recover in hospital! The day shift nurses were quite helpful and really did try to make me more comfortable. I had an incident the morning after surgery and they were quick to assist as much as possible. The food was touch and go - some meals were really good and others weren't. All in all I wouldn't choose Wilgers again. I did submit feedback on the website but I did not receive any response.
Yesterday I went to the emergency with a sick child. A simple check was fine. There were three receptionists and one helper to help. It took 30 minutes to create the paperwork. The child began to cry and I tried to appease him. After an hour, the child began to fall asleep. For two and a half hours I sat in a chair and waited for the doctor. In the meantime I have seen There is no waiting line in the emergency room. Some went into the treatment room faster than I did, and some went in as soon as they arrived. I don't know how they decide. One thing to note is that the person complaining is NO1. Me and my wife were struggling and decided to just go home. The staff stopped me and ask to me. why are you going home I answered. Look around. I was the only one left in the emergency room. Everyone who was later than me has gone back, and I am the only one here. Their answer is to sign. I just left the emergency room. There are no lines in the emergency room. When I got home, I made an appointment with the nearest Netcare, and this morning I received a prescription. The doctor said that the child's ear was very inflamed. I am grateful to my child for being patient through the night.
Very friendly staff. I would just like to have them responding faster when a patient rings the bell. The food is nice. Hospital is organized! Will send my loved ones there with peace in my heart.
Would NOT recommend this hospital. Shocked by the nurses at neurological and oncology wards knowledge of patience well-being and medication administration tracking. Ability or lack of to look after a diabetic patient is horrifying. Not the first time we've had a negative experience here, at least this time we didn't allow it to nearly cost my mother her life. Zero trust in this establishment. Traumatizing to say the least.
This is probably the worst casualty unit at a private hospital in SA. On Sunday night the GP did not seem to interested at all in examining or treating my son. I phoned to complain and said that he is still ill, and asked for him to be seen by someone that is competent and interested intreating patients as a follow-up. When he got there he was treated like garbage by both the GP on duty and the male nurse attending to him. No bedside manner at all. You will be better off going to Steve Biko.
Thank you for the wonderful nurses and staff in the Medical Ward at Wilgers Hospital who made my 6 night stay enjoyable. They were all very caring and friendly, and went out of their way to make things more comfortable for me.
On Tuesday my son had a muscle cramp. I took him to Wilgers Hospital, we arrived at the hospital around 19:30 and we finished the following day 12:30 in the morning. They will keep you waiting in that Hospital unnecessary. Public Hospital is better than them I think. This was my second bad experience with them. I will never go to that Hospital again.
Would not recommend this hospital if your baby has a virus and is going to be admitted to the isolation rooms in the paediatrics ward!! Stay away! The walls are so badly scratched. You would think that a private hospital would at least paint these rooms. The room is sooo small and the cot, wash basin, table trolley and couch/pull out bed needs to fit in a 2x2 room! If you want to pull out the bed to lie down or take a quick nap when your baby is eventually sleeping you are met with this response “If you pull out the bed you are making it difficult for us to enter and leave the room. So is the mother/father only allowed to rest when it is convenient for the nurse?????? Photo attached of scratches on wall
