Baymont by Wyndham Marshalltown

Comfortable beds, nice breakfast, wonderful service. We left a night early and we're not charged for it. Very knowledgeable about the area too!

At first appearance the renovations are nice and updated. After day three, my only complaint was going to be the molded shower curtain that made the bathroom smell, and the inoperative bathroom exhaust fan. Unfortunately, on day four my wife turned over in the bed only to find a bed bug crawling on my pillow. We called front desk, they came to remove the bed bug and offered to move us to another room. When asked if they had prior issues, the response was no, but personel quickly shared everything had just been replaced to avoid bed bugs. Needless to say, that was the end our stay with Baymont.

I prepaid for the Baymont because of the pool for my daughter to use since our reason for stay was an unpleasant one that would be quite boring for an 8 year old. Upon arrival the pool was closed for cleaning but we were assured by the person at the desk that it would be open the next day. However the pool was not open the next day. It was open the 4th day of our stay. The water looked strangely cloudy near the light at the deep end. The hottub, as my daughter put it, smelled like a dirty fish tank. We didn't use it upon smelling. Our 5th and final day of our stay the pool was again closed. The breakfast was decent except for the day we went to eat halfway through the designated breakfast time and there was hardly anything left. We had a non-smoking room than had been smoked in and stunk like an ashtray. We ended up moving rooms because the heater didn't work. In our second I found that of every available outlet the bottom socket didn't work. This made charging our phones, tablets, and my laptop difficult along with adding to the overall negative appearance of the hotel. The cable TV channel lineup left in the room had probably 30 channels listed but only about 12 were available and they were what you would expect from over-the-air stations to be. The bathroom shower head liked to run half of the water out of the bottom straight down rather than spraying it out as it should. The bathtub had holes in it where the washcloth holding rod should have been. The backdoor to the hotel was never locked and thus easily accessible to anyone with foul intentions. To top it all off, every time I saw the cleaning staff, they would give me dirty looks like they would rather me leave than give them money to stay. On the plus side, the pillows were soft and the bed was really comfortable. I tend to wake up with a backache if I sleep too long but that didn't happen here.

Wonderful and very helpful staff ,breakfast fit for a king and all new furnishings. You will stay because you want to not because you have to. Tops on my list of bang for your bucks

Family owned, this place is clean, well maintained, and staffed by very friendly staff. During my week long visit, there was a minor incident with a device in my room which the staff immediately addressed to my satisfaction. Highly recommended and the price is right.
