Consulate General of Ecuador

I was seriously considering renouncing my Ecuadorian citizenship after dealing with this place. They don't pick up the phone and website is a joke. Very unprofessional staff in the back offices. The only positive was it wasn't packed the day of my appointment so I was done in about 45 minutes. You have to make an appointment to renew a cedula and then return 4-6 weeks later to pick it up. I asked if it was absolutely necessary for me to renew my cedula and passport since I became a U.S citizen 14 years ago and was told yes because I'm considered a dual citizen. Then he tells me it's good to have my papers in order IN CASE they ask during immigration in Ecuador. I proceeded with renewal because I didn't want to go through this in Guayaquil. Of course, I was NOT asked for my cedula or Ecuadorian passport when I arrived or left Guayaquil.

I had to call the consulate office in DC because no one picks up the phone in Newark. An agent did me the favor of activating my 4X4 registration even though it is not his job, but he also remarked that it is not fair that his fellow consulate members are not fulfilling their duties, and consequently, putting more work on him. Now my family in Ecuador won't get their gifts in time for Christmas. Answer your phones.

Website don't even work.. they seem to have brought the Ecuadorian experience right to the U.S. Funny how this place is operating with such lack of customer service and not do a thing about it.

Shame​ on them! Start answering the phone and earning your salaries..not everyone can go personally there for simple questions...the internet is not an option since is mostly down or not full information...it's obvious that you are appointed or hired from people connected in the political field. If you can't do your job or too good to answer the phone..hire the right people please..this is USA and Not Ecuador.. again start earning your seats and salaries!!

I just wanted to Thank you for Great Experience in Consulado del Ecuador in Newark NJ for your efforts and prompt reply. The all staff were very polite and professional; instructions were explicit and took less time with my application then expected. They are kindest, most efficient, and most compassionate government offices I have ever encountered!
