Desert Hills Of New Mexico

I have mixed emotions about my experience here but one person who helped me the most was Yvonne Nunez (Therapist) She was extremely knowledgeable in all kinds of trauma and different things I was dealing with in life. She helped me fix relationships with my family. She was extremely kind and understanding and patient. I had been in therapy most of my life and I can happily say I made the most progress with her. I loved how individualized my treatment plan was and I loved how if something we were trying wasn't working there were multiple other approaches we could take. It was so nice knowing I had someone who genuinely cared and didnt give up on me. Definitely most amazing person I worked with at Desert Hills.

I had bad experience working at this place. Management sucks they favor seniority and are not open to new ways in helping the kids staff focuses more on what other staff members are doing rather than what the kids are doing. They yell and cuss at the kids as well as physically abuse them. They hardly follow the rules when it comes to restraints. If you have an issue and are not a senior employee at this facility management sides with only those senior employees. They like to judge negatively and single people out. They would rather use you and make your life hell till you decide to quit rather than helping you become a better employee for the kids. The kids are not getting the treatment they need I think they need to fire all the old employees and hire new ones who actually care about the kids rather than themselves. Facility is sloppy and does not go by the book most of the time. If you have a strong personality they will try and make you change who you are to fit their criteria if not they fire you regardless how well you are with the children. Shift supervisors are the worst. They write staff situations for wiping your ass wrong. They also team up with seniority if they don't like you and try their hardest to get you fired. Most of the time they succeed but seniority is truely the problem. This facility needs to be shut down. These kids deserve more understanding and dedication.

This place is horrible. I would never recommend it to anyone. I regret ever letting my kid go there. My kid has had three therapist in three months! Staff is abusive and the turn over rate is horrific. It has done more harm then good to my kid. They don't give enough food to the clients and refuse when clients ask for more. This facility uses force and restraints for unnecessary reasons. The units that the clients live on are not up to code and smell horribly and is in need of maintenance badly. I don't know how and why CYFD has not closed this place down!

My grandson was placed in that facility yesterday and this morning 3 boys including my grandson were able to escape due to an open door!! Was not notified at all of this happening!! If my grandson wouldn't of called me to go pick him up who knows where he would of gone!! Not impressed with this facility at all!!!

I have trued alot of places to seek help for my son I finally found one that he likes. The day treatment is great my son likes going to school now. And we have aswome therapist!federico Apuzzo
