Esther's Cajun Cafe & Soul Food

From the reviews online and a few of my family saying it was good my expectations were high. First let me say THEY ARE TOO DAMN PRICEY! I'm sorry but they are too expensive and their food is not up to par for the price point. I dined in with another person and our bill came out to $45. Just for a main entree and 2 sides. I ordered the oxtails, collards greens and mac & cheese. The oxtails were below my expectations. Cooked great but the flavor was lacking. CARIBBEAN JERK CUISINE ON RICHMOND HAS WAY BETTER OXTAILS!! Collard greens...I've made better. The mashed potatoes were bomb and the mac and cheese was delicious. Other than that there is nothing special about this place I've had better soul food elsewhere. Sorry but I will not be back.

My Five Stars go to God for allowing me to walk in the door with Jesus to deliver this message at Esther's Cajun Cafe and whomever else all over the world...I give this place no stars!!! The ox-tail meal had no price on it when I looked up at the menu for the prices after I got it and paid for it. They charged me $23.10 and they told me what somebody from somewhere in this world said...which was probably the owner or some white man...What somebody told them???...What does "Thus saith the Lord?" I say... they chose to charge me this amount...It only had four ox-tails,they were tough and no meat...When I put the first one in my mouth it didn't even feel like I ate a piece of meat... I got corn and green beans and rice and gravy with a piece of some strawberry cake that was hard itself...I was very dissatisfied... I ate a vegetable plate with rice and gravy and cornbread... Yeah that's what it was... I would like my money back or they should get into a ministry to feed people and give that food away and I would even accept a plate of pork chops with gravy and sweet potatoes...Proverbs23:6 will explain this very well... Im a Black Woman who has a Food License and Food Nutrition Certificate that Affords me to have my own Restaurant... I will ask God to "Order My Steps in His Word" with it as well...God Bless You and Yours,

So. My family is visiting Houston for my daughters birthday and we are having a great time. We ate at Steak 48 and triple j’s bbq and both places treated us like visitors with great southern hospitality. Highly recommend both places. Since I heard about this place on the food network and come who doesn’t like great soul food we had to try this place. I THOUGHT PEOPLE WERE ROUGH IN CHICAGO (where we are from). THIS PLACE MAKES CHICAGO LOOK LIKE DISNEY LAND. IVE NEVER COULD HAVE IMAGINED BEING TREATED LIKE WE WERE. MEAN IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. THIS WAS LIKE WATCHING HOW PEOPLE EAT IN PRISON. THE YOUNG LADY AT THE CHECK OUT COUNTER DESERVES A RAISE BECAUSE SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT WAS KIND. I WILL NEVER, EVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. MAYBE, JUST MAYBE IF THE FOOD WAS BETTER THEY COULD KINDA GET AWAY WITH A LITTLE ATTITUDE BUT NOPE. NOT THIS PLACE!!!!!!!

Best Oxtail I have tried in a restaurant. It was like Ratatouille movie when the guy travels back to his childhood with the first bite. It taste exactly how my grandmother used to prepare it when I was a kid.

I love the fried chicken, it is make to order but it's worth the wait. And the wait isn't long. I like all thw sidrs I've tried and they have great tea. The atmosphere is laid back with R&B music playing while you dine. You won't regret going.
