Really disappointed in this place. Would not let my sister get a dog there because she lives in an apartment. Which, I get it, and I appreciate inquiries on the behalf of the dog. However, we let them know that there is a huge park AND dog park next to her apartment for the dog to run and play in- in addition to that my sister runs marathons/does triathlons and always bikes, run, or swims- meaning the dog would receive more than enough exercise (all of this was told to them). Well they say they are going to call the apartment and check on things to make sure she could have a dog there (which she could as she had already checked) but that everything looked good. Well my sister gets a call the next day, and the person who called her pretty much reprimanded her for wanting a larger dog in an apartment, they told her she was unfit to own that dog. To add insult to injury, she was already upset but looked at their Facebook where they put a picture up of the dog she wanted saying "come adopt this dog as long as you have a fenced in back yard- no apartments"... why would you tell us to put an application in and check the apartment if you never intended to let her adopt the puppy????
The whole thing was really sad because that dog would have had an amazing life in her care. The situation was handled really unprofessionally. It's just ironic to me how a place that was so run down, dirty and disorganized could tell a perfectly appropriate candidate that she wasn't eligible for a dog.

First off I'd like to compliment the volunteer girl who helped show us beano, she was very friendly and nice. The dogs and cats looked well cared for.
I gave this place a 1 star review because of kim. She gave off an extremely condescending and judgmental attitude towards us. Were a couple in our late 20s with plenty of time availible to take care of a newly adopted family member. She proceeds to tell us while we are there that the previous owner of the dog didn't care for the dog like she should have, and I could tell she was silently drawing parallels between that person and judging us silently. She was friendly I guess but I felt bad when we left and put in our application. She didn't call us back like she said she would, she had one of the volunteer staff call and say we've been denied, with absolutely no explanation. I called 2 more times trying to speak with Kim and find out why we were denied, she was apparently "never there". Overall I felt we had an extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional experience with kim and we are heartbroken we couldn't adopt the dog we wanted.
Kim is the type of classic old southern "know it all" type of people and regret ever coming there. The rest of the staff is excellent I feel bad they work for her.
Lastly, her adoption fees are triple any other shelter we've visited.
Thanks for nothing.

They took my dog in from someone who was not the owner. This person could not prove ownership and did not even have to provide identification. My dog had just been neutered and microchipped but they lied and stated he did not have one. By the time I found out where he went they had already adopted him to another family and would not provide me information for them. I asked them to be kind enough to relay a message that I would pay the new owners to get him back, but I do not know if they even did that. This place sickens me because there is nothing I could do and they did not even feel responsible for taking in a dog from someone without proof of ownership. Beware of these people because the next dog you adopt from them could result in legal action from a third party. The form they had this person sign would not hold up in court, a lawyer told me, but that it would cost thousands for me to take legal action against them. They had an attorney pro bono as a friend of the rescue. It cost them nothing to fight me. Go to the county shelter instead, these people are despicable!!!!!!

This place is awesome! They do such wonderful work for the community and the homeless pets. We are so lucky to have this organization in Pensacola!

If I could give a zero I would. Friends of mine were turned down for adoption because they didn't have a fenced back yard for a small dog that they were trying to adopt. Many bad pet owners use their fenced back yard as a babysitter for their dogs. Its a shame that this is the criteria to give a shelter/rescue pet a loving, forever home. To top it off, they were rude about it, and even told my friend that he was an irresponsible pet owner because of not having a fenced back yard. They simply give rescues a bad name. Support another rescue.
