Fee is $4 adults, can't remember what age kids are free. Good display & info about dig sight. Nice trails for short or long hikes. We did the 2 mile hike, good challenge. Brochure does a good job of warning you about conditions of trails so you can decide what is right for you. Dress appropriately for the weather, should have bug spray. One in our party found one tick inside clothing when done with no spray applied. Beautiful place to get out & enjoy nature.

Mastodon state park is a hidden gem off I-55. This state park is definitely in my top 5 state mo parks! Being just 30 minutes out of st. Louis makes it ideal. Has a couple mile challenging bluff trail that the family and I love to race up & down. Also, mastodon offers Spacious picnic areas & playgrounds with wheelchair accessible bathrooms.

This park has a couple walking paths, one easy, one not so much. It also has creek access for the kids to get wet if you're not afraid of water snakes, and a playground for the little ones. There are pavilions, picnic tables, ample parking and open space for a game of badminton if you've got the gear.

Go for the 2 1/4 mile hike and wear shoes you don't mind getting dirty! The museum isn't very fascinating and the picnic/playground area isn't very extravagant but the main trail is very scenic all year around. There is also a small 1/4 mile paved trail near the playground that goes along the creek that I like to tack onto my main hike. This is my favorite state park within a 30 minute drive of here by far. I'm lucky to live so close to this gem and locals love it too as you will be able to tell from the loaded parking lot on nice days.

Really enjoyed seeing the displays, reading the info and watching the movie. I wish I had more time to hike the trails. Nice stop. Glad I got to see it. Very informative.
